Eldritch Horror Theatre - Ch. 56: The Omen Must Die (Part 2)

The young woman wore a black formal dress, sitting with noble and elegant posture, her neck as white and slender as a swan's.

Even the severed head still carried a sweet smile. The body slumped over the table, blood murmuring as it flowed out, dyeing the high-end printed tablecloth red.

This highly impactful scene was deeply branded into everyone's mind.

After a deathly silence, screams of terror erupted in the restaurant. Some people stood up and ran outside, desperate for their lives.

"Shh!"

Grunt A stepped forward and made a silencing gesture.

A simple action, yet it carried an immense deterrent power. The screaming stopped almost instantly, and everyone froze.

"This is just to inform everyone of the reason you need to cooperate. Please do not panic, and definitely do not move recklessly. I guarantee that none of you here are under any threat."

After speaking as if nothing had happened, Grunt A signaled his colleague to put the head back.

In response to his words, the diners in the restaurant were quiet out of fear, not daring to raise any objections, save for the occasional suppressed sob.

"So this is the prestige of the Night Watchers!"

Fu Qian sighed in admiration and turned his attention back to the delicious food in front of him.

Although the incident was sudden, he was already mentally prepared for it.

After all, his mission this time was to stop a disaster from happening.

While he still wasn't sure what the disaster was, he never expected any place he appeared to be peaceful.

Moreover, compared to his recent experiences, the scene before him could almost be considered mild and refreshing.

Sniffing the faint scent of blood in the air, Fu Qian picked up another piece of food, put it in his mouth, and hurried to chew it a few times with a look of sheer satisfaction.

One shouldn't lose their life over work.

His movements were almost completely silent, but in this situation, they were undoubtedly jarring and out of place.

Not only were a few surrounding diners staring at him in disbelief, but Grunt A, who was single-handedly intimidating the entire room, also frowned.

Exchanging a glance with his colleague, Grunt A walked over to Fu Qian under the watchful eyes of everyone, staring down at him from above.

However, the latter didn't even lift his head, sweeping the plate clean as if no one else was there.

Grunt A swallowed hard, then anger surged in his heart, and the surrounding temperature instantly dropped another ten degrees.

"Name?"

"Fu Qian."

"Age?"

"20."

"Occupation?"

"Expert."

Having finished his food and in a great mood, Fu Qian was extremely cooperative with the Q&A.

Unfortunately, after stating his occupation, he clearly saw the questioner's eyelids twitch.

"Expert... is that your occupation?"

"That's right, a professional expert."

Fu Qian blinked.

"You sit right here and don't move."

Grunt A's face turned pale green, and he turned to look at his colleague.

"I think this guy is highly suspicious."

"In all my years, the thing I hate the most are experts!"

Hearing this, the latter hurried over, looking Fu Qian up and down with a look of suspicion and uncertainty.

'This is the gap!'

Fu Qian sighed internally. This guy was obviously assessing his strength, but it was a pity the gap between them was too large to see anything at all.

In gaming terms, a casting of 'Identify' would just return question marks.

From this perspective, the scale of this Xiyuan City probably wasn't very large. At least compared to the Beyonder he met at the Night Watchers Base last time, these two were still quite weak.

If field agents were only at this level, their overall strength was worryingly low.

Seeing the situation fall into a stalemate, Grunt B received a message.

After a brief exchange, he walked up, pulled his colleague aside to whisper, and occasionally cast a furtive glance at him.

Fu Qian had no interest in eavesdropping on others, but unfortunately, these two pressed their voices down so low it reached the moon, yet being so close, he could hear them crystal clear.

"The Team Leader ordered us to control the situation. Keep everything as it is, do nothing, and wait for Executioner Su to arrive."

"Do nothing? We just stand here and watch?"

Grunt A was clearly displeased.

"That's what the Team Leader said. It's Executioner Su's request. You'd better not mess around; I don't want to offend that lady..."

"Fine."

Ultimately, Grunt A agreed reluctantly, but the look he gave Fu Qian was quite indignant.

'That lady?'

Fu Qian was suddenly interested.

He knew the configuration of the Night Watchers in most places.

Basically, in smaller places, the Night Watchers consisted of a squad-sized team: a Team Leader plus a few formal members, with the Team Leader being the highest authority in the region.

To think an uninvited guest arrived and made the Team Leader cooperate fully without any principles?

Judging by their tone, they were also quite wary of this person.

Such an abnormal situation might just be related to his mission.

Fu Qian, who had already been thinking of ways to leave, decided to wait a little longer.

Time ticked by minute by minute, passing exceptionally slowly in the silence.

Even so, no one uttered a single complaint. Everyone sat obediently in their places, as well-behaved as elementary school students.

Finally, after a long wait, someone pushed the door and walked in.

Fu Qian looked up and froze for a moment.

A narrow black hat, a long curved sword.

Skin as white as snow, as fine as white porcelain.

Uh... that literally was white porcelain!

Looking at that familiar half-face, Fu Qian recalled a certain ruthless person who had hacked at him three times in a row.

Her name seemed to be Su Gao?

...

Logically speaking, it had only been a few days since he last saw her.

But emotionally, it felt like a long time ago.

Compared to their last meeting, there was no change in her attire, and her face remained as expressionless as a wooden puppet.

Except that the portion of her face covered in white porcelain seemed to have increased significantly, to the point that her high collar couldn't fully conceal it.

That wasn't the main point. The main point was that this was the first time he had encountered someone from a previous containment mission!

If he remembered correctly, at the end of the 2-133 containment mission, neither Su Gao nor the Team Leader had suffered any fatal injuries.

The slender Su Gao stood there, and although she didn't bring in any more cold currents, an inexplicable murderous aura made the restaurant even quieter.

The Grunt Duo cautiously approached to welcome her, all previous complaints completely vanished.

Without needing their reminder, Su Gao walked straight to the murdered young woman and observed carefully.

Only after a long while did she raise her head, deep in thought.

"Executioner Su, besides the victim, we also found a suspicious person here."

The Grunt Duo had been holding their breath, not daring to disturb her in the slightest. Now, Grunt A finally couldn't help but speak up.

As he spoke, he pointed in Fu Qian's direction.

Hmm?

Listening to the accusation against him, Fu Qian didn't utter a sound.

He was very curious about Su Gao's reaction upon seeing him.

That represented the answer he cared about the most.

If she could recognize him, wouldn't that somewhat prove that his previous experience wasn't just a simple illusion?

But rather, that he had left tangible traces in this world?

"Ah!"

Following the direction Grunt A pointed, Su Gao let out an exclamation.

Fu Qian keenly noticed a momentary flash of liveliness in her wooden features, and a brilliant galaxy seemed to flash across her eyes.

"Mr... Fu?"
