Eldritch Horror Theatre - Ch. 69: Omen Must Die (15)
This...
Su Gao's words left the crowd exchanging glances, entirely speechless.
Huang Leji, in particular, had the second half of his sentence choked off in his throat, feeling immensely stifled.
"He also said he arranged with you to split up."
"That's correct, we are splitting up to hunt down Omen."
...Who the hell are you trying to fool!
Any idiot could see you two hadn't met in ages and didn't even seem very close. How could you possibly have a joint pursuit plan?
This guy surnamed Fu was obviously of suspicious origin, but Su Gao had adamantly rubber-stamped his identity without a second thought.
"Mr. Fu also suspected that Omen was hiding in our Huang Family!"
Huang Leji said coldly.
"Really?"
Su Gao's gaze finally sharpened as she swept her eyes around.
"If Mr. Fu thinks so, he naturally has his reasons."
...
Huang Leji was now completely lost for words.
Although the reason was unknown, Su Gao was clearly protecting this kid unconditionally.
It looked as though even if this Fu Qian claimed he was Omen, Executioner Su would probably just swing her sword right at him.
But to let it go just like this was too bitter a pill to swallow. Huang Leji redirected his spearhead back at Fu Qian.
"Mr. Fu, may I ask how you previously confirmed that Omen's target was a member of the Huang Family? Even accurately pinpointing the Sixth Uncle?"
"Professional skills. Why else would I be an operations consultant?"
Faced with Huang Leji's questioning, Fu Qian chuckled and then said something that made everyone's hair stand on end.
"Not only that, I can also confirm that Omen's next target is still a member of the Huang Family!"
...
Still someone from the Huang Family?
The surrounding crowd instantly felt their hearts leap into their throats.
As an aristocratic family accustomed to peace, they could say they had never previously thought Omen would pose any threat to them.
Unfortunately, the scene before them had shattered this false sense of security, and Fu Qian's words brought about a fear that felt almost tangible.
"Mr. Fu..."
Huang Leji was likewise stunned for a long moment. He took a deep breath, just about to speak.
"It's about time!"
Unexpectedly, Fu Qian stood up at this moment, nodded at Su Gao, and strode directly outside, completely ignoring the encirclement ahead of him.
The latter silently followed right behind him.
The people blocking the way subconsciously took a step back. No matter what, this was the Night Watchers; they couldn't realistically try to block them by force, right?
Everyone was very clear about what taking action against the Night Watchers meant. Throughout history, far more than just one or two families had been annihilated for doing so.
As a result, the group almost automatically parted to open a path, watching helplessly as the two walked away.
"Father, what should we do next?"
After a moment of hollow dismay, Huang Jianyuan approached, looking at his father with a pale face.
Huang Leji's expression was undoubtedly exceedingly grim as well. Today, he definitely couldn't do anything to this fellow of unknown origin.
At the same time, his intuition made him unwilling to believe Fu Qian's words.
But whether he wanted to believe it or not was one thing; the brutal scene before him was rock solid reality.
If left unchecked, and something similar really happened again...
"Send out a notice for everyone to return, and tighten security at the manor. During this period, no one is allowed to leave without my approval."
Huang Leji ground out through clenched teeth.
...
"Regarding what happened last time, I never had the chance to express my gratitude to you."
After leaving the Huang Family Manor, Su Gao stopped and looked at Fu Qian, speaking with solemn sincerity.
Actually, you already thanked me.
Fu Qian chuckled internally, waving off Su Gao's repeated thanks, and handed her a piece of paper.
It was one of the documents the Huang Family had just provided; the information on Huang Yuanchang had already been marked by him.
"It would be complicated to explain, but preliminarily, it's confirmed that he is Omen's true identity."
Hmm?
Su Gao's eyes lit up at these words, and she earnestly read through the document.
Since taking on this mission, she had been tracking Omen all the way. She had a few opportunities in between, but they slipped through her fingers every time, resulting in the lackluster information she had gathered up to now.
And Mr. Fu had actually found the guy straight away!
"After this guy killed the person in the Huang Family just now, he already fled the premises. He should currently be lurking in Xiyuan City, searching for his next target."
"Another certainty is that after his kill at the Huang Family, his series of torturous sacrificial acts has reached its final stages."
"He only needs a few more sacrifices to achieve his goal, which is highly likely to be some sort of large-scale disaster."
"In short, the time we have left is running out."
Fu Qian quickly briefed Su Gao on his findings, and the latter didn't utter a word, listening with extreme diligence.
"But it's not entirely without a chance."
"While Omen's movements are certainly secretive, one point is very clear: his targets are all Beyonders."
"I deliberately said Omen's next target was still a Huang Family member just now, solely to scare them a bit."
"The number of Beyonders here in Xiyuan is already low. Once the Huang Family bolsters their defenses, Omen's available targets will become even more limited. So next, we will split into two paths."
Recalling the map in his head, Fu Qian casually sketched out a rough diagram.
"Two zones. We'll each take responsibility for searching one route."
"According to my estimates, for Beyonders below the Middle Tier, he still needs to sacrifice at least five more to finalize his ritual. If we can lock onto his position before then, we absolutely have a chance."
"Understood."
Su Gao agreed without hesitation, having zero objections to Fu Qian's arrangements. She didn't even ask how Fu Qian knew all this.
She wasn't someone who easily trusted others, but her past experiences had instilled in her an almost blind trust in Fu Qian.
Back then, this mysterious man who appeared out of nowhere, claiming to be an expert, led a group through an almost impossible mission with his unbelievable intuition, giving her slaughtering some actual meaning.
Otherwise, she feared she would never have been able to face those memories.
"Please take care, Mr. Fu!"
Taking the route map Fu Qian had drawn, Su Gao bowed deeply and then turned to leave without a shred of hesitation.
It's starting!
Watching Su Gao depart, Fu Qian wasted no more time and commenced his own operation.
Now, in the little Xiyuan City, Omen had to face two hunters.
In fact, Fu Qian was almost positive that Su Gao wouldn't be able to find anyone.
If his previous guess regarding Omen's sanctuary was correct, then Su Gao was undoubtedly a bigger threat than himself.
The sanctuary protecting Omen would definitely prioritize her, making him avoid Su Gao's search to the greatest extent possible.
And the point of having Su Gao search was simply to increase the odds of him—the slightly weaker threat—finding Omen.
Perhaps some might ask why he didn't tell the Huang Family the truth and involve them in the hunt, to further compress Omen's area of operations.
Actually, the reason was simple: Fu Qian didn't think they posed any threat to Omen, and their involvement would only complicate things.
Better to just scare them and have them hole up and play defense at home.
You can never win a game where someone is constantly feeding kills to the enemy!
