Horror Camgirl - Ch. 84: Medicine King Valley
"Heh, he tricked so many people, and now he's finally facing the consequences. Serves him right!"
"Who exposed him?"
"Sigh, don't you know why he could con people here for so many years? It's because he has connections in Medicine King Valley."
I couldn't help but ask Tang Mingli, "What's Medicine King Valley?"
Before Tang Mingli could respond, Old Yang spoke up, "Medicine King Valley is the sacred land of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China. It's said that of the five most renowned national-level TCM experts, three are disciples from Medicine King Valley, and the other two have close ties with it. Many Ability User organizations, martial arts families, and even the national Special Departments rely on Medicine King Valley to purchase various spiritual medicines and elixirs. Because of this, Medicine King Valley holds a unique, exalted position in China—so much so that even high-ranking officials must show them some respect. This trade fair? It's organized by Medicine King Valley."
Curious, I asked, "If he has connections with Medicine King Valley, how do you still dare to offend him?"
Old Yang snorted coldly, "If everyone keeps silent and lets him deceive others, where’s the justice in this world?"
Inwardly, I couldn't help but give him a mental thumbs-up. Such a sense of righteousness is truly rare in modern society.
Just then, a group of people pushed through the crowd.
They were security personnel for the Spiritual Medicine Trade Fair, and one of them was the manager, who said anxiously, "Dr. Zhang, hurry, check on him."
A doctor in a white coat approached, took the man's pulse, examined him carefully, and frowned. "Mr. Hou has been poisoned. But as for what poison it is, I'm afraid my knowledge falls short; I can’t determine it."
The manager wiped the sweat off his forehead, then looked up and saw Old Yang. He angrily demanded, "You again! Was it you who poisoned Mr. Hou?"
Old Yang sneered, "I have no interest in poisoning a mere fraud."
Desperate for a scapegoat, the manager wasn't about to let him off easily. He raised his voice, "Regardless, you're highly suspect. Seize him! We’ll hand him over to Medicine King Valley’s special representative when he arrives."
Old Yang erupted in anger, "On what grounds are you arresting me?"
The manager sneered, "You can explain yourself to the representative."
Several security guards, who were Bright Strength martial artists, stepped forward to detain him. Medicine King Valley really spared no expense for this fair.
I took a step forward. "Hold on."
The manager gave me a hostile look. "Who are you?"
I lifted the brim of my hat and said, "You don’t even know what kind of poison he’s suffering from, yet you're already arresting people? When I almost got scammed by him earlier, where was this efficiency of yours?"
The surrounding crowd started whispering among themselves.
I raised my voice and continued, "He’s been swindling people at the fair for ages, and Medicine King Valley hasn’t stopped him. Does Medicine King Valley condone this?"
"Yeah, this Hou guy has been scamming people for four or five years, and no one’s done anything," someone muttered under their breath.
"Would Medicine King Valley really tolerate this kind of behavior?"
"But Medicine King Valley is supposed to be the holy ground of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China. If they’re doing things like this, does it mean TCM in China is truly in decline?"
The manager was visibly panicked, his frustration boiling over as he shouted at me, "You also had a spat with Mr. Hou just now. Maybe you’re the one who poisoned him! Take them both!"
Tang Mingli stepped forward to shield me, giving them a cold glance. "I’d like to see who dares."
"You—you dare resist?" The manager glanced nervously at his Rolex, anxious. The Medicine King Valley representative would arrive any moment, and if he saw this mess, things could get ugly.
Huang Luzi spoke in a chilling tone, "I never expected Medicine King Valley to become a place that harbors such filth."
Suddenly, Tang Mingli leaned in and whispered in my ear, "The representative from Medicine King Valley has arrived."
I looked up to see a middle-aged man in a black Zhongshan suit approaching from a distance, accompanied by several attendants. Raising my voice, I said coldly, "Does Medicine King Valley even know what’s happening here? You’re tarnishing their reputation with these disgraceful actions. Do you really think they’ll let you get away with it?"
"You—you’re slandering us!" the manager yelled furiously. "What are you all standing around for? Arrest these troublemakers!"
"Stop!" A commanding voice cut through, causing the manager's face to pale as he turned and plastered on a smile, bowing to the man in the Zhongshan suit. "Mr. Li, you’re here! These people were poisoning others at the trade fair, and I was just dealing with it. Please, go inside and have some tea. Once I’ve apprehended them, I’ll present them to you for judgment."
Mr. Li’s gaze swept over us, then lingered on the writhing figure of Hou on the ground. "Who is he?"
The manager moved closer, lowering his voice, "He’s surnamed Hou…Mr. Yan Mucheng’s brother-in-law."
I whispered to Tang Mingli, "Who’s Yan Mucheng?"
"Yan Mucheng is a doctor from Medicine King Valley," Tang Mingli sneered dismissively. "A doctor of the lowest rank."
Mr. Li frowned. "A low-ranking doctor from Medicine King Valley, and yet you tolerate his brother-in-law acting as he pleases at the trade fair?"
The manager's face went pale, breaking into a cold sweat. Even the lowest-ranking doctor from Medicine King Valley held far more respect than he did as an outsider—he couldn't afford to offend him.
Mr. Li's tone turned cold. "Get this fraud out of here."
The manager hastily nodded. "Y-yes, sir." He signaled to two security guards, who immediately dragged the man away. Mr. Li shot a frosty glance at the manager and said, "You’ve condoned his behavior for years, damaging the reputation of Medicine King Valley. You’re dismissed. Hand over everything to your deputy, collect your final paycheck, and leave."
Without giving him a chance to plead, Mr. Li turned on his heel and left. The manager was ashen-faced, trembling uncontrollably. Though he wasn’t part of Medicine King Valley’s inner circle, he was still considered a close affiliate, enjoying connections wherever he went. Now that he was expelled, how would he make a living?
People around them praised Mr. Li, and I was a bit surprised. "Medicine King Valley does seem fair and principled."
Tang Mingli scoffed, "Medicine King Valley usually protects its own at all costs. Today must be an exception."
Mr. Li proceeded into a private room in a garden, where a tall man was sipping tea. Mr. Li approached and said, "Young Master, the matter has been taken care of."
The man drinking tea was none other than Yin Shengyao.
"Good," Yin Shengyao replied, finishing the amber tea in his cup. "If she takes a liking to anything, make sure she gets it."
Mr. Li bowed. "Understood. I'll make the arrangements."
Exiting the room, he looked pleased. The young master, who had always kept his distance from women, was finally showing interest in one. While that girl might not be a match for the young master, it shouldn’t matter as long as they didn't marry. The higher-ups wouldn’t interfere.
Mr. Li rubbed his chin, already thinking of ways to bring her to his young master.
Little did I know, I'd caught someone else's eye again. Old Yang patted my shoulder heartily and said, "Not bad, young lady. Standing up for what’s right—I like that."
He was a martial artist, though only of the Bright Strength level, but his strength still stung my shoulder a bit.
"Is this your first time here?" he asked with a grin. "Come on, let me be your guide today!"
As he led the way, we followed behind. Tang Mingli leaned over and whispered, "Was that you just now?"
I smirked. "I’ve recently developed a new poison. Since my martial skills aren't that strong, I need something for self-defense."
Tang Mingli chuckled. "Nice work."
Old Yang took us into a courtyard filled with long tables covered with rows of medicinal herbs.
"These are all from Medicine King Valley," he said. "Their herbal medicines are of exceptional quality and aren’t cheap. If you see something you want, you’d better grab it quickly, or it'll be gone."
As I browsed, I overheard Huang Luzi muttering, "I can't believe herbs of this grade are being displayed at a Spiritual Medicine exchange. Mortal medicine is truly in decline."
I lowered my voice. "Nowadays, Western medicine is more popular; Traditional Chinese Medicine has indeed faded quite a bit."
Huang Luzi fell silent. Although he found these herbs unremarkable, several were quite useful for me. I seized the chance to acquire a few that I liked, surprisingly without competition. Meanwhile, others were practically fighting over each item, not guaranteed to even get one.
Tang Mingli’s eyes narrowed slightly, and his expression grew darker.
