Eldritch Horror Theatre - Ch. 113: The Hunter Thirsts for Blood (13)
"Mr. Fang, are you alright? What happened here?"
After the dust settled, Wen Li finally rushed over upon hearing the commotion, and was startled by the flesh and blood scattered on the ground.
"It's nothing. Just now, someone came looking for me, saying they wanted to play a game with me—"
Fu Qian said lightly.
"And then he lost."
"Also, there's an unconscious maid in my room. You can find someone to go take a look, and it would be best to take her for a gastroscopy."
...
Wen Li was clearly a bit dumbfounded. After instructing someone to go to Fu Qian's room, she invited Fu Qian aside privately.
Fu Qian briefly told her what had just happened but hid some details, only saying that someone controlled the maid to come over and ambush him.
In fact, from the very beginning, Fu Qian didn't believe a word that person said at all.
Coming to his door at the first opportunity under the guise of playing a game—ninety-nine percent of it was to probe him.
What could a game of choosing between red and green capsules possibly test?
Courage? Character? Or luck?
It was completely meaningless.
Combined with the later performance, Fu Qian even believed that there was a high probability both capsules had problems; swallowing either of them might result in sharing the maid's fate.
The so-called choice was merely a misdirection.
After listening to Fu Qian, Wen Li's face also went pale, clearly evoking some bad memories.
It seemed she also had a profound memory of the soup-drinking incident.
He didn't know if she would fire all the servants in the future and do everything herself.
Hmm... most likely not.
"Are you suspecting that the monster has been lurking here with me for a long time?"
After a long while, Wen Li finally recovered and asked.
"Probably not too long, after all, you've only been here for less than a month."
Fu Qian blinked.
He clearly wasn't very good at comforting people; Wen Li's face turned even paler.
...
After the game incident, Wen Li visibly became fraught with worry.
Before, she had probably only focused on the hidden threat, completely unaware that her home had long been infiltrated like a sieve.
So much so that the next day at breakfast, the dark circles under her eyes were quite obvious.
"Mr. Fang, do you have time today? I plan to go out for a bit."
Wen Li clearly had no appetite; she just took a few sips of clear broth and put down her bowl and chopsticks.
"You're going out? It's not very safe right now."
Fu Qian asked while eating his breakfast.
It had to be said that Wen Li would never wrong her stomach no matter where she went. This chef's standards were quite excellent; a simple breakfast was actually made into many varieties, the smell alone making one's index finger twitch with appetite.
"Yes."
Wen Li nodded firmly.
"I know going out will increase the risk, but there is an important person I must visit today."
"Alright."
Seeing her so insistent, Fu Qian reluctantly nodded.
Of course, his inner thoughts were entirely the opposite of what he showed. He practically raised both hands and feet in approval of Wen Li's plan.
Although it was waiting for a hare to crash into a tree stump, staying at home all the time clearly wasn't effective enough.
The most efficient method was to move the tree stump to a place where there were many hares.
Wen Li was also decisive and swift. After arranging matters at home, the two quickly set off.
In the car, Fu Qian remembered the issue Wen Li had mentioned before.
"Speaking of which, since yesterday afternoon, have you sensed that previous malice again?"
"No more."
Wen Li shook her head.
"Since the way to visit you, that malice disappeared. Speaking of which, I have to thank you for this."
Wen Li forced a smile, her expression still a bit stiff.
Just as she was about to say something more, a ringtone suddenly sounded.
It was Wen Xiuxian, who had heard about the matters here and specifically called to confirm the situation.
Sitting on the side, Fu Qian could hear the solemnity in his words.
At this time, Wen Li calmed down, gently comforting her father with a few words, and stated that "Uncle Deng" had been taking care of her, not mentioning his existence the entire time.
It seemed his previous guess was correct; there was a high probability Wen Xiuxian had a huge problem with him, and Wen Li didn't want him to know she had sought him out as a bodyguard again.
Human nature, understandable.
Fu Qian couldn't care less about this, but he was quite curious about the "Uncle Deng" Wen Li mentioned.
He sounded like a person of no small influence, and Wen Xiuxian's words carried a lot of entrusting intent, making it look like he deeply trusted the latter.
"Uncle Deng's full name is Deng Feizhou. He is the person we are going to visit later."
Wen Li hung up the phone and proactively explained to Fu Qian.
"He is a very powerful Beyonder and an old acquaintance of my father's for many years. Later, he came to Shangjing alone to develop."
"Before leaving this time, my father specifically mentioned that I should visit him more often."
Hmm.
Fu Qian nodded.
Wen Li, after all, was currently a Tier 6 Beyonder; the "very powerful Beyonder" in her words wouldn't be of a low standard.
The car turned this way and that, finally stopping in front of a courtyard residence that carried a strong sense of age.
Wen Li got off and rang the doorbell, and soon the door was opened from the inside.
Inside was a tall and thin middle-aged man, his hair already somewhat greying.
Although his facial features were ordinary, the occasional glint in his eyes seemed to have the power to pierce through people's hearts.
A bit impressive!
Fu Qian commented silently; Wen Li hadn't been talking nonsense.
"Uncle Deng."
Wen Li greeted him obediently.
Deng Feizhou looked quite stern and gave a slight nod in response.
"This is Fang Xun, a friend of mine. He has been temporarily staying at my place recently, so I brought him along to visit you."
Wen Li went on to introduce Fu Qian, cooperatively using the excuse of "temporarily staying."
Hmm.
Deng Feizhou looked Fu Qian up and down a few times, said nothing, and motioned for the two to enter the house.
Compared to where Wen Li lived, this courtyard was undoubtedly much more low-key, but judging by the decorations and furnishings inside, this person was also either rich or noble.
"Uncle Deng, I've come to bother you again today mainly because some special situations have occurred."
As soon as Wen Li sat down, she directly stated her purpose and began recounting the situation that happened last night, even bringing up the matter of her being followed.
It could be seen that she trusted this Uncle Deng quite a bit.
After hearing Wen Li's words, Deng Feizhou stayed silent for a long time before finally speaking.
"Has the Chen Family contacted you?"
"Yesterday, Chen Mingda came over to apologize because of the accident at the banquet, and later even suggested that I move into their manor."
"He suggested you move to Houhai Manor? I suppose he means well, but it's actually not quite necessary."
Deng Feizhou frowned slightly.
"I just received news that another Chen Family descendant was murdered last night."
"Because of this, the entire Chen Family is exceptionally furious and is fully cooperating with the Night Watchers to hunt down Henrik's tracks. I believe there will be results soon, so you don't need to worry excessively."
"As for the mysterious figure parasitizing bodies that you mentioned, I've never heard of such a thing before."
"Speaking of which, I just remembered something."
Fu Qian suddenly interjected.
Remembered what?
Wen Li looked over in surprise, and Deng Feizhou's gaze was even sharper like lightning.
"The day before yesterday, I was taken to the Night Watcher Base. Their person in charge, Yuan Shan, personally asked me a few questions, one of which was rather strange..."
"She asked me if the Night Watcher who was murdered in my shop had spat out anything at the time."
Fu Qian wore a solemn expression, deadpanning as he began to spout pure nonsense.
