Eldritch Horror Theatre - Ch. 119: The Hunter Desires Blood (19)
Within the Sealed Zone, murderous intent surged.
"You really dare to admit it!"
As soon as Fu Qian's words came out, even Yuan Shan's body trembled, staring at him in disbelief.
"What's there to be afraid of?"
The wrath of a Demigod was no trivial matter. Even though Yuan Shan hadn't made a move yet, it felt as if bursts of invisible vortices had appeared in the air, pressing down so hard that it was difficult to breathe.
Besides, inside the Sealed Zone, there were still three guards around the Fourth Tier who could rush over at any time.
However, Fu Qian was completely unfazed by this.
"Saving time on probing, isn't that nice?"
"You brought me down here precisely to confirm this, didn't you?"
"Since you put it that way..."
Yuan Shan's expression was freezing cold, her gaze sharp.
"I hope you use the precious time you saved to properly explain your reasons, otherwise you'll find it very hard to leave here today."
You don't need to say it, I was already prepared when I came.
Fu Qian thought to himself.
When Poker Face said Yuan Shan wanted to see him earlier, he had anticipated this scene.
But Fu Qian came anyway.
The reason was very simple: the Blood of Thorns wasn't found on Henrik.
If he had confirmed earlier that Henrik possessed the mission target, he wouldn't have bothered with anyone and would have simply reaped it to complete the mission.
However, unable to find the Blood of Thorns, and confirming the presence of someone behind the scenes, he had to make this trip; otherwise, he'd become a shield to divert attention.
Next up was a battle of wits and words.
"It's actually very simple. Because, just like you, I believe the whole incident was not Henrik's solo act."
Fu Qian spoke with startling bluntness.
"What do you mean?"
Yuan Shan was startled at first. Her tone calmed down, but her gaze remained icy.
"Don't tell me that you've been staying in the Nightwatcher Base just to enjoy the privileges of leadership."
"I came to Shangjing with the original intention of living a leisurely and carefree life, while looking after a deceased friend's daughter in passing. However, after learning about some situations, I was forced to grow suspicious."
"Go on."
"I once dealt with a person named Lu Ming and witnessed some strange research. And some of the situations I observed at the banquet gave me some bad associations, so I wanted to confirm exactly what was stolen?"
Fu Qian chose to bring out the Rebirth Club as a shield.
"Lu Ming?"
Yuan Shan narrowed her eyes.
"That's right, an old gentleman without a single hair on his head, who was always obsessed with experiments involving corpses and limb splicing."
"Rebirth Club?"
"You know about this too?"
"Why wouldn't I know about this?"
Yuan Shan snorted.
"That bunch of lunatics running amok at sea, turning the place into a foul mess—I'm crystal clear about all those situations."
"However, it's said that an accident occurred there three months ago. Not only was Bai Jinting of the White Tower Group assassinated, but the Rebirth Club also suffered heavy losses. The Laboratory and everything else were completely destroyed. That old acquaintance of yours should have also died in the accident."
"Unfortunately, given the special nature of the Ring Archipelago, and with Ibrahimovic strictly blocking the news, we know very little about what exactly happened. We only heard that the assassin still hasn't been caught to this day."
Actually, that was me too.
Fu Qian thought to himself.
"But based purely on such an unfounded guess, you trespassed into the Nightwatcher Base, and even went for the kill?"
Yuan Shan glared.
"First of all, my original intention was just to sneak in and have a look. Secondly, I didn't go for the kill."
Fu Qian waved his hand.
For the little girl and the two guards he took down at the time, he had deliberately controlled his force; they were absolutely not fatal injuries.
What Yuan Shan said earlier about injuring three people also proved this point.
As for the final Tendril Barrage Devastator, he just demolished a building. The Night Watchers have deep pockets, they probably don't care that much, right?
"The main point isn't that, but that after that incident, I was targeted. For instance, I encountered a strange assassination attempt last night."
"This morning, I directly ran into Henrik. Although Wen Li can indeed be considered his prey, isn't this a bit too much of a coincidence?"
"Assassination?"
"That's right."
Fu Qian described the incident with the maid and the rabbit once over.
"That talking rabbit, I firmly believe it was definitely not Henrik's doing?"
Yuan Shan fell deep in thought.
"Go on."
"Therefore, I am increasingly convinced that Henrik's defection is not that simple; there are other people manipulating it behind the scenes. And due to my abnormal behavior, they noticed me and decided to eliminate me as an uncontrollable factor."
"Although I'm currently not sure who they are or what their purpose is, in my view, Henrik is nothing more than a utilized tool."
Yuan Shan stared for a long while and finally nodded, the murderous aura around her dispersing slightly.
"Have you heard of the Primordial Council?"
Primordial Council? This was an unfamiliar term.
Fu Qian shook his head.
"It's normal not to know. Unlike the Rebirth Club which operates in the open, the Primordial Council is a deeply hidden secret organization."
"Compared to the Rebirth Club, the Primordial Council acts even more without a bottom line. Many incidents involving contamination and Curses are related to them, and they've always been our primary target for eradication."
"So you suspect they are orchestrating this?"
So Yuan Shan indeed had her suspicions early on.
"I originally didn't believe Henrik would do such a thing. Unfortunately, there was no proof. If the information you bring is true, it serves as corroborating evidence for this."
"If this is really the case, I'm afraid Henrik will soon be discarded."
Fu Qian silently made a deduction.
Henrik had already gone almost completely mad and couldn't divulge any information. If the Primordial Council's goal was solely the Blood of Thorns, then there was a high probability he would be abandoned at an opportune moment.
"In fact, I feel his current actions are meant to draw fire for the people behind the scenes."
"Is this also why you've consistently refused to leave the Nightwatcher Base, fearing a 'lure the tiger out of the mountain' tactic?"
"Yes, on one hand, I'm unsure of their objective, and another reason is that this thing has always been unstable."
Yuan Shan pointed at the firmly sealed room and added a few more stripes onto it.
"After the item was taken away, the remaining parts of the corpse underwent a severe mutation. Not only did it turn the surroundings into this state, it is even faintly affecting the other sealed corpses."
"Because of this, I've had to continually deal with it. Now, it's considered basically stabilized."
"Moving forward, we just need to wait for headquarters to send someone over to completely handle this."
"I see."
Fu Qian nodded.
"However, you're quite impressive."
A smile suddenly bloomed on Yuan Shan's face.
"I like men who act without scruples. Any interest in joining the Night Watchers?"
"No."
Fu Qian answered firmly and decisively.
"I'm just a bookstore owner."
"You can listen to the benefits first, don't be in such a hurry to refuse."
Yuan Shan's eyes flowed with charm. Just as she was about to say something more, her expression suddenly grew serious, and she walked to the side.
A moment later, she walked back and looked at Fu Qian.
"They found Henrik."
