Eldritch Horror Theatre - Ch. 134: Disorder (Part 5)
Who are you, big bro?
Fu Qian looked at the thoroughly agitated man in front of him.
A white clerical collar, shirt, trousers, and a coffee-colored outer robe. If he were holding a book in his hands, he would be the spitting image of a Priest.
From the reactions of the surrounding people, it was clear that this Priest held considerable prestige here.
With the sentence he had just blurted out, Fu Qian felt everyone's gazes toward him instantly turn fervent.
"It really is Dragon Communion? A Sequence that has been lost for decades?"
The trench-coated woman looked at the Priest, her expression terrifyingly grave.
"Believe me, Duchess, there is no mistake. Blue circular fine scales, starting from the limbs and torso..."
The Priest's voice was trembling.
"After so many years, a Sequence has finally returned!"
Hiss!
The trench-coated woman addressed as Duchess took a deep breath.
"I think it's best to confirm it, lest it turn out to be empty joy in the end."
"Yes!"
The Priest nodded heavily, looking at Fu Qian with zeal, and hailed him with an unquestionable tone.
"Please follow me."
Dragon Communion? Sequence? Returned?
Escorted by Duchess and her people, Fu Qian followed the Priest forward while inexplicably recalling the famous meme, "The three-year term is up."
However, despite only hearing fragments of conversation just now, he could barely piece together some context.
Sequence likely referred to different types of power, and his Awakening was one of them, named Dragon Communion.
Judging from the Priest's words, the Dragon Communion Sequence hadn't appeared for decades and was considered a rarity.
His Awakening marked the return of this lost Sequence, and they were extraordinarily excited about it.
The Priest must have some method to verify its authenticity and was leading him there right now.
There shouldn't be any danger for the time being, Fu Qian silently judged.
Of course, there was one more thing: he was essentially a prison breaker right now.
Although no one had cared about this detail from just now until present, it was hard to say what their reaction would be if it was brought up.
Fu Qian decided to Observe Quietly.
Amidst the reverent gazes of the crowd along the way, the group followed behind the Priest and soon arrived at a church-like building.
Walking through a long portico all the way to the interior, Fu Qian found the shapes of the colorful clusters in the sky one by one on the stained glass windows surrounding the hall.
It really was a related faith.
"The rest wait here, Duchess and I will head up."
The Priest led the group to a staircase on one side of the hall, signaling the rest of the squad to wait.
The others decisively halted their steps, while Duchess, without a word, used her eyes to gesture for Fu Qian to walk ahead.
A few minutes later, the three arrived upstairs in another tower, finally stopping before brown double doors.
The Priest first bowed in reverence, then pushed the doors open to both sides.
Behind the doors was a vast hall. From near to far stood seven stone statues, forming a circle in various shapes.
Other than that, there was nothing else.
"This is the Hall of Radiance."
The Priest gazed at each statue, his eyes holding an indescribable devotion and fanaticism.
"Follow me."
At his direction, Fu Qian approached one of the stone statues.
The statues' appearances were quite different from the auroras in the sky; basically, human outlines could still be discerned.
However, localized areas showed some specific mutations.
The one in front of Fu Qian had a body conspicuously covered in fine scales, its appearance extremely similar to those on his own arms.
Of course, in comparison, his current state was still very mild. Except for the scales, everything else was normal.
The statue looked much more hideous. Not only was its face like a lizard's, but it even had wing-like appendages growing from its back.
Following the Priest's prompt, Fu Qian placed his hand on the statue.
Under the tense gazes of the two, golden textures slowly seeped out of the statue, looking radiant and brilliant.
Almost instantly, Fu Qian heard two heavy gasps.
"It is true Dragon Communion!"
"Although the rank isn't high yet, it's real!"
The Priest looked at Duchess, his face full of ecstasy.
The latter was finally moved as well.
"May the Seven Lights bless us, this is everyone's hope!"
"Yes, I will go announce this news immediately!"
I have no problem with announcing the good news, but do you really not care about how I got out?
Fu Qian looked at the two overly excited people.
"Excuse me, could you explain a bit?"
"Explain?"
The Priest cast a puzzled glance at him, then suddenly realized.
"The previous Achromatic State affected your memory? How much do you remember?"
"Hardly anything."
Since the Priest had already found the excuse, Fu Qian simply went with the flow and answered very candidly.
"You should at least know about Dragon Communion, right?"
The Priest pointed at his body.
Fu Qian shook his head.
"Sigh..."
The Priest looked Fu Qian up and down and let out a long sigh.
"It's understandable. An Awakening while afflicted with the Eclipse Curse must have exacted a tremendous price."
"But it doesn't matter. You've already become a member of the Sequence; you won't have to worry anymore."
"That's not bad."
"Let's talk as we walk. I'll give you a brief introduction to the situation first."
The Priest pulled Fu Qian outside.
"In this Hall of Radiance are the statues of the seven Kings of the Sequence, which are also the ultimate power form manifestations of the seven Sequences."
"The seven Sequences correspond to the eternal and indestructible Seven Lights, which are also the foundation of this world's existence."
"Unfortunately, starting many years ago, the inheritances began to wither. Some Sequences no longer had any Awakened Ones appear, including Dragon Communion."
"Up until now, we only had Awakened Ones from three Sequences left."
Duchess chimed in from the side.
So that was it.
"This is also why your Awakening is so inspiring. The return of an ancient Sequence represents the greatest hope."
"The citizens outside have lived in fear for far too long."
Understood.
"But what's the deal with losing color?"
"You don't even remember that?"
Now even the Priest was shocked.
"I only remember a period of extreme pain, my body's senses and memories slowly fading, but I have absolutely no impression of anything else."
"Yes, that is the Eclipse Curse."
Duchess's voice was low.
"Everyone who hasn't yet entered a Sequence is under the threat of the Eclipse Curse. Once infected, their life slowly dims, eventually dissipating entirely."
"In fact, over the past year, there hasn't been a single Awakened One.
Meanwhile, the number of Colorless has been continuously increasing. While investigating the cause, we had no choice but to lock the Colorless in the prison."
"You are the only person currently known to have survived while afflicted by the Curse."
"In short, your outstanding performance has given everyone hope."
The Priest's face was brimming with hot tears, barely able to contain his emotions.
Bearing peerless talent, saving the world amidst despair.
What a 'Chosen One' vibe!
Fu Qian, having grasped the general situation, sighed emotionally.
He never expected there would be a day he would become an overpowered chosen one.
