Eldritch Horror Theatre - Ch. 137: You're All Going to Die
Tian Yuhua was even angrier: "What's your badge number? I’m going to report you to your chief!"
The police officer turned slightly and said calmly, "Go ahead. We don’t want to put handcuffs on you, so please cooperate."
The media grew excited, like flies swarming over dung, eagerly taking photos of her with their cameras.
Her face darkened, and an assistant whispered, "President, with all these reporters around, it’s not the right time to lose your temper. Perhaps it would be better to wait until we get to the police station before talking to the chief."
Tian Yuhua took a deep breath and said loudly, "Real gold fears no fire. I’ll go with you. You will all have to send me back safe and sound sooner or later."
Under the constant flashes of cameras, she got into the police car. Once she arrived at the station, she was told that the chief was out of town—he had just left that morning.
She was puzzled. Why leave now of all times?
Someone secretly tipped her off: she had triggered a landmine this time, offended someone she shouldn’t have, and committed a crime. It looked like she wouldn't be able to avoid jail.
Her face changed drastically. She managed to borrow a phone and called her family for help.
Two days later, I received a call from Hu Qingyu. He apologized and said that someone from the Feng Family in Chongnan City, Sichuan Province wanted to invite me to dinner.
The Feng Family—Tian Yuhua’s maternal grandfather’s family—was her backing.
Hu Qingyu said he owed the Feng Family a favor, which was why he was acting as an intermediary. He added that if I didn’t want to go, he would decline on my behalf.
I could refuse most people, but I couldn't ignore Hu Qingyu’s favor.
I agreed right away, then discussed it with Tang Mingli, who decided to accompany me to the dinner.
The Feng Family wouldn’t skimp on a meal. It was held at the best Vegetarian Feast restaurant in Shan City. This was my second time there, and this time the feast was even more lavish than the last. Each dish was crafted with exquisite detail.
Two young people had come from the Feng Family. One was named Feng Mingzhen, and the other was Feng Mingyi.
Behind them stood two tall bodyguards—one was a Level Two Ability User, and the other was an early-stage Transformation Strength martial artist.
The moment I saw them, I turned to leave.
The expressions on the faces of the two Feng Family members changed. Feng Mingyi immediately stood up and shouted, "Madam Yuan, we invited you to a meal, and you haven't even sat down before leaving. Are you not giving us any face?"
I replied coldly, "I won’t dine with the walking dead."
"What?" The two were furious. Feng Mingyi, who had a hot temper, exploded, "Madam Yuan, you're too disrespectful! Do you know the consequences of offending the Feng Family?"
I sneered. "Let me be blunt. Tian Yuhua came to provoke me because the Feng Family was behind it, wasn't it? You used a distant relative as a pawn to test whether I was easy to bully. If I were, I would have been devoured until not even a scrap remained."
Both Feng Family members had dark expressions. Though I had hit the nail on the head, they would never admit it.
Feng Mingzhen said, "Madam Yuan, you're overthinking it. We didn’t mean it that way. We came here sincerely, hoping to reconcile with you."
I said, "It doesn’t matter. Anyway, within three days, you’re all going to die."
With that, I looked at Hu Qingyu and said, "Minister Hu, I apologize."
Hu Qingyu shook his head. "I only brought you here. I have no control over anything else."
I nodded, then left with Tang Mingli. He didn’t ask much, but there was a hint of doubt in his eyes.
Three days later, at dawn, the phone rang and woke me up. Hu Qingyu’s solemn voice said, "Madam Yuan, the two Feng Family brothers are dead."
I sighed softly. "I already warned them."
There was a long silence on the other end. Then Hu Qingyu said, "The Feng Family thinks you did it. They won’t let it go this time. The higher-ups have already decided—you should come to the Special Department for now to lay low."
I asked, "Don’t you want to know who did it?"
He remained silent.
I said, "Do you really think I killed them?"
"Didn’t you?"
"Of course not," I replied. "I’m not that foolish. Besides, I’m not the kind of person to kill at the slightest provocation. The reason they died is that the Feng Family got themselves into serious trouble."
"What kind of trouble?" he asked.
"That night, how many bodyguards did the Feng Family brothers bring?" I asked.
Hu Qingyu paused, then said, "They only brought one, a Transformation Strength master."
I sighed. "When I went into the private room, I saw two people standing behind them."
Hu Qingyu gasped. He hadn’t seen anyone else there at all.
Actually, I had activated the “Tian” livestream at the time. Senior Yin Changsheng was interested and wanted to see what the Feng Family people were up to.
As soon as I entered, Yin Changsheng said, "Leave immediately. If you want to live, don’t look back. Leave now."
After returning home, I asked Yin Changsheng who that person was, but he refused to say. He only warned me not to provoke him, to avoid bringing disaster upon myself.
I said, "Minister Hu, don't get involved with the Feng Family’s affairs. We can’t afford to provoke that person."
Hu Qingyu gave a wry smile. "Now the Feng Family is convinced you did it, and they’ve already sent people to arrest you."
Before he finished speaking, there was a loud bang as the door was kicked open. Several tall men in black suits rushed in.
These men were all Dark Strength masters.
It seemed the Feng Family really did have deep resources.
I drew my peachwood sword and held it in front of my chest. "Perfect. Those thugs the other day were too weak. I’ll use you guys for practice."
With that, I twisted my wrist, channeling all my spiritual power into the blade.
Zhao Ke's long tassel swings, Wugou's bright frost snow.
The sword light flashed, leaving streaks of white light. The Dark Strength masters showed expressions of shock.
With this move, I knocked down three of them.
Three left.
The second move.
Silver saddle, white horse, galloping like a shooting star.
Starry light burst from the peachwood sword, swirling around me like shooting stars. The three men were terrified and backed away quickly. My eyes flashed with a cold light as I thrust my sword forward.
It was clearly a simple, unpretentious sword strike, without any flashy techniques, yet it made them feel an unprecedented fear.
When the starlight in the sky faded away, the three Dark Strength Martial Artists all lay on the ground.
"I already went easy on them. Otherwise, they’d all be corpses by now."
This was the power of the "Hero Sword Manual"—truly overwhelming.
At that moment, Ye Xianluo and Chen Dekai, along with several agents from the Special Department, rushed in. They were sent by Hu Qingyu to rescue me, but instead, they found this scene.
They were stunned.
I put away the Peachwood Sword and said loudly, "Go back and tell your Feng Family Patriarch that someone else killed those brothers."
Before I could finish speaking, I heard a deep voice say, "You might as well tell me in person."
I looked up and saw an elderly man walking in from outside the door. He wore a black Tang suit and held a dragon-headed cane.
The old man had long hair reaching his chest, his face glowed with vitality, and he walked with a commanding presence, his aura formidable.
Ye Xianluo's expression grew serious. "Feng Family Patriarch, I didn’t expect you to come personally. Madam Yuan is under the protection of the Special Department, so I ask that you respect our authority."
Behind the old man stood a tall middle-aged man. I couldn’t see through his level of mastery, but he gave off an unfathomable vibe.
Mid-phase Transformation Strength? Or perhaps later?
The Feng Family Patriarch said coldly, "I respect your authority, but who’s going to give my Feng Family respect? Who's going to return my two boys to me?"
He paused, then added, "And Zhiguang. He was A Zhi's only son. If not for my boys, then for Zhiguang, I can't let her go."
So, this expert's name was A Zhi, and he was the uncle of the early-phase Transformation Strength expert who was with the Feng Family brothers.
A Zhi glared at me coldly, his eyes full of hatred.
I sighed and said, "So, you’re convinced that it was me?"
The Feng Family Patriarch snorted. I said, "Have you two even considered that I’ve only just begun learning martial arts? How could I possibly defeat an early-phase Transformation Strength expert so easily?"
A Zhi spoke in a low voice, "At first, I didn't believe it either. But after seeing those moves of yours just now, I can’t help but believe it."
I looked toward Ye Xianluo and said, "Xianluo, tell me, how did the Feng Family brothers die? And what about their bodyguard, Zhiguang?"
Ye Xianluo replied, "The Feng Family brothers and Xu Zhiguang were all killed by having their skulls crushed with a single palm strike."
"That makes sense," I said. "Never mind the Feng Family brothers, but someone who could crush the skull of an early-phase Transformation Strength expert—such a person must be at least a Core Strength master."
A Zhi sneered, "Who knows if you hired a killer to do it?"
I cast him a calm glance and said, "You go by A Zhi, but today, your actions don't match your reputation."
A Zhi's face darkened. "What did you say?"
Raising my voice, I said, "Feng Family Patriarch, may I ask, have you offended anyone powerful lately?"
The Feng Family Patriarch stood tall, leaning on his cane. "Over the past hundred years, our Feng Family has made countless enemies, yet we are always the ones laughing in the end."
I sighed softly, "This time, I’m afraid your laughter won't last for long."
A flash of fury crossed A Zhi’s eyes. "How dare you, you wretched girl! You dare threaten our Family Head?"
With that, he suddenly moved and struck at me with his palm.
I was terrified—I could feel the threat of death. Transformation Strength peak! He was actually at the peak of Transformation Strength!
What do I do? Am I going to die?
At that moment, a figure suddenly rushed in, raising a hand to block the strike.
"Bang!" With a deafening crash, the person shielding me was sent flying backward. I quickly reached out to catch him, and we ended up crashing into the wall together. The pain in my back was excruciating, and I felt at least three ribs break.
Meanwhile, A Zhi also staggered back a few steps, clutching his hand, which was trembling uncontrollably.
"You... what is that thing on your arm?" A Zhi growled.
I anxiously helped Tang Mingli up. "Are you alright?"
Tang Mingli’s face was pale, but there was a smile at the corner of his lips. He tore open his sleeve, revealing a golden armguard intricately engraved with patterns that shimmered with a soft glow.
