Horror Camgirl - Ch. 130: Town of Corpses
He suddenly rolled over, leaping into the air, as a gust of wind sliced through the spot where he had just been standing. Directly ahead, someone who was about to stand up to go to the bathroom got sliced cleanly in half at the chest by that wind.
"Ah!" A scream tore through the silence of the carriage, and panic broke out as people scrambled for safety. His brows knit tightly as he scanned the surroundings, looking for the person who had just ambushed him.
Suddenly, his gaze fixed on a man—a skinny, bald guy wearing a sinister smile. He was trying to blend into the crowd, attempting to escape.
Xue Haotian’s expression turned cold. Without hesitation, he let a dart, the size of his thumb, slip from his sleeve and flung it with precision.
The dart whizzed through the panicked crowd, embedding itself right in the man's forehead. The man froze, his eyes going blank as he dropped to the ground, motionless.
Xue Haotian was about to approach the fallen man to inspect him when he felt an even greater sense of danger.
The passengers, who were initially fleeing, suddenly halted. Slowly, they turned around, their eyes cold and emotionless, staring straight at him.
His heart sank—could all of these people be controlled by a spirit?
"Hehehe." A sharp, shrill laugh sounded, as a black shadow emerged from the body of the bald man.
The shadow quickly merged into the passengers' shadows, disappearing without a trace.
Xue Haotian sensed a chill sweeping over from behind and spun around quickly. A powerful gust of wind brushed past his body, slicing through his expensive casual clothes.
He glanced back at the passengers. They didn’t attack but kept moving through the carriage, while the spirit hid within their shadows, making it impossible for him to tell who was the real threat.
After dodging several ambushes, his clothes were left in tatters. What had started as a refined appearance now resembled that of a ragged beggar.
His expression darkened like storm clouds, and he sneered, "Since you want to play, let’s play to the end."
With that, he pulled a ring from his coat pocket and slipped it onto his left thumb.
The ring was made of platinum, with a large red gemstone set in its center.
Suddenly, he felt another chill from behind. He slammed his palm upward into the ceiling, shattering all the lights with several crisp pops, his Inner Strength obliterating them.
In an instant, he whirled around, raising his hand to block. The blast of energy struck his ring, causing the red gemstone to glow with a crimson light, bathing the entire carriage in a bloody hue.
The spirit hidden in the shadows shrieked as the red light touched it, writhing as though in agony, before melting away like molasses.
Until it disintegrated into nothing, it never appeared in its true form; everything only manifested in shadows on the walls.
"Mr. Xue." I burst in with a flashlight in hand. He put the ring back in his pocket and smiled, "It's all taken care of."
Before he could finish, the scene around us began to change again. I quickly released my Divine Sense, and this time I noticed that the rift had widened.
My heart leaped with joy—this meant that the spirit wasn’t as powerful as we feared. It had created this Ghost Space, and each time the scene shifted, the Ghost Space developed cracks.
No wonder there were only five stages. More stages would mean more scene changes, and the Ghost Space would eventually collapse.
We were back in the classroom. Blood-red letters scrawled across the chalkboard read: "You two have surprised me with your skills. Congratulations on passing three stages in a row. However, do not let your guard down—the remaining two stages are extremely difficult. Countless players have died trying to complete them. No one has ever fully passed them. Please proceed to Classroom 1A."
We quickly headed to another building's classroom. Compared to the junior school building, this place was even more dilapidated. Moss covered the floors and walls.
The scene shifted again, and this time we found ourselves in a remote mountainous wilderness. It was nighttime, and overhead, a blood-red crescent moon hung in the sky. Everything was eerily silent, not even the sound of insects could be heard.
The blood-red crescent is an omen—symbolizing death and slaughter.
I could feel the ghostly energy saturating the forest around us. This level was far harder than the previous ones—not just by a little.
Jingling.
A crisp bell rang, followed by a voice calling out, "The living, stay away..."
I exchanged a glance with Xue Haotian and quickly hid in the bushes. The bell's sound drew nearer, accompanied by dull, rhythmic footsteps.
Xue Haotian leaned close to my ear and whispered, "It’s the corpse herders of Xiangxi."
As the figures came closer, I saw a middle-aged man in a yellow Taoist robe leading the way, followed by six people.
The Taoist-robed man was ugly, and the people following behind all wore cheap suits. Their faces were pallid, lips purple, and eyes hollow.
They weren’t walking—they were hopping.
These were all Corpses!
[Huh, why aren’t these Corpses wearing Qing dynasty official robes?]
[You've probably watched too many of Lin Zhengying’s movies, right? The Qing dynasty ended ages ago! This is the 21st century—who wears Qing official robes anymore?]
[Tsk, do people still herd corpses nowadays? Wouldn’t it be easier to just cremate them and send them home? Way more convenient—they could even take a plane.]
【Didn’t know that, huh? In many places, it’s a tradition that the deceased must be buried in the ground.】
I gave a sweeping glance at the corpses, frowning slightly, and said to Xue Haotian, "These corpses are unusual. They will definitely reanimate tonight."
"How can you tell?" Xue Haotian asked.
I said, "Look at their foreheads. There's a black aura swirling around them. This means corpse energy has been disturbed, and they’re bound to reanimate. Technically, the corpse driver should be able to notice this, and they should be using special talismans to seal off the energy."
【Sigh, this is the state of corpse driving nowadays. There are hardly any corpse drivers left—people only hire them if they can’t afford to transport a body by car. With changing times, the job has no successors, and even if there are one or two, they’re only half-skilled.】
【Wait, is the guy in front a corpse driver?】
【I’m not, but my grandfather used to be when he was young. He hung up his robes long ago and now watches live streams with me.】
The two of us followed behind them, traveling until we reached a small town. There was a funeral parlor there, and the corpse driver led the six corpses inside, paying the old gatekeeper some money so they could stay the night.
The two of us snuck into the funeral parlor as well. No funerals were being held that day, so the six corpses were left behind the mourning hall, lying stiffly on metal cots.
The Taoist and the gatekeeper squeezed into the guardroom to sleep.
By this time, the night was deep, and the whole town was asleep, but a sense of unease lingered in the funeral parlor.
As we approached the mourning hall, blood-red words appeared on the pale, somber backdrop.
"Kill the zombified corpses. Discover the truth behind their reanimation."
At this moment, the Taoist came out to pour out his foot wash. We quickly snuck behind the mourning hall to hide. I took the opportunity to pull out my phone to check the comments.
What I saw shocked me.
【Hey, didn’t I see earlier that the sign at the funeral parlor said this town is called Qingyang Town?】
【You’re right, it’s Qingyang Town.】
【Oh my gosh! Then there’s no mistake! Three years ago, there was a huge fire in Qingyang Town, Hunan Province!】
【Hmm? Interesting, hurry up and tell us more!】
【My hometown is in Tianfen County. Qingyang Town is a town under Tianfen County, and I happened to be home three years ago. That night, there was also a blood-red new moon, and Qingyang Town had a massive fire. It burned all night and wasn't put out until midday the next day.】
【Only a handful of people managed to escape from the town. I heard rumors that zombies appeared in Qingyang Town that night, and they were killing people everywhere. No one knows exactly how the fire started, but many people were already killed by the zombies before it even began.】
【Not sure if those zombies were burned in the fire. The incident was all over the place back then, and the government even put out announcements telling people not to spread rumors.】
Because Hei YanTV had a character limit on comments, this viewer named "Little Soldier Achen" had to post in several parts.
【So, does this mean the challenges the streamer is facing in Ghost Space are all based on real events?】
【Speaking of that, do you remember that train from earlier? The one that derailed five years ago? The one that fell off the bridge! They never figured out what caused the accident... could it be…?】
