Eldritch Horror Theatre - Ch. 155: Legacy of the Sword Heart (Part 2)
Mentor Card?
Faced with the middle-aged man's questioning, Fu Qian was also puzzled.
So my identity this time isn't a student, but a mentor?
This was quite unexpected.
But it wasn't a bad thing. Compared to a student, a mentor identity obviously offered much more freedom of movement.
"Let's step outside first."
Seeing many students looking over with confused expressions, the middle-aged man realized their conversation had already caused some disturbance and motioned for Fu Qian to follow him out.
Walking all the way to the entrance, the middle-aged man, with a stern look, signaled Fu Qian to wait in place.
He then took Fu Qian's card and swiped it on a nearby machine.
"Fu Qian?"
Half a minute later, the middle-aged man looked at the displayed information, then looked Fu Qian up and down with a complex expression.
"Yes, that's me."
It seems I didn't change my name this time either.
From his position, Fu Qian could also see the content on the display screen, confirming that not only did it have his name, but the avatar matched as well.
"...To actually be a mentor from the Revelation Institute... This is way too young!"
The middle-aged man muttered to himself, somewhat unable to believe what he was seeing.
The next moment, he seemed to suddenly think of something, and a deeper disgust than before appeared on his face.
"Sorry, even though you are a mentor from the Revelation Institute, trespassing into the Sword Pavilion has violated the rules. I will report this to the Academy to penalize you."
Gripping Fu Qian's ID card, the man said stiffly.
What's with this sudden "you killed my father" attitude?
Fu Qian couldn't understand the middle-aged man's emotional shift, but he immediately denied the accusation of trespassing.
"I didn't trespass. Think back carefully. You were the one who invited me inside."
That actually seems to be true...
The middle-aged man froze again, recalling the scene from earlier.
It really seemed like he had taken the initiative to tell him to go in, and had forgotten to check his ID.
Strictly speaking, this was indeed his own dereliction of duty.
But who would have thought that a mentor from the Revelation Institute would be squatting at the entrance of the Sword Pavilion at a time like this, and even wearing a Sword Institute uniform?
Right, the uniform!
"Never mind the rest, you put on the clothes yourself, right? Can you claim you didn't have any ulterior motives?"
"There is actually a reason for that."
Fu Qian smiled, spouting nonsense off the top of his head.
"Although I don't study the way of the sword, with the Sword Pavilion opening and many students comprehending within, as a researcher of supernatural powers, I am very interested in this grand event. So I came here to observe the changes in the students' auras before and after their meditation."
"To avoid making them feel out of place, I simply borrowed a uniform."
Keep spouting nonsense!
The middle-aged man looked at Fu Qian in disbelief. *So you were just doing research in there!*
This was clearly a bullshit excuse, yet he couldn't find a way to refute it for a moment.
"Wait."
Before he could say anything, Fu Qian frowned and looked at him suspiciously.
"First you invited me inside... then you come finding me to say I broke the rules... Why do I feel like this reeks of entrapment... You couldn't have done this on purpose, could you?"
Who do you think you are?!
I deliberately let you into the Academy's restricted area just to entrap you?
The middle-aged man almost spat a mouthful of blood onto Fu Qian's face.
This guy was absolutely shameless; just exactly like those lunatics from the Revelation Institute.
However, given the situation, he was already starting to get nervous, questioning whether he should keep arguing with Fu Qian.
This guy was clearly a scoundrel, and if they really got into it, he was at fault too.
Anyway, he was only inside for a few minutes, so it wasn't a major issue.
"Fu Qian!"
Seeing that his words were taking effect, Fu Qian was just about to apply a little more pressure when a tall figure walked over from a distance, shouting at Fu Qian before even reaching him.
"I couldn't find you at your place earlier, I guessed you'd be here!"
The newcomer was an attractive, mature woman with brown hair and blue eyes. She spoke to Fu Qian very naturally.
Before she finished speaking, she saw the card in the middle-aged man's hand, then looked at Fu Qian's attire, and a hint of surprise couldn't help but surface on her face.
"You weren't trying to go inside, were you? This is a restricted area of the Sword Institute, don't mess around too much!"
"Professor Lanaya."
Upon seeing the newcomer, the middle-aged man's expression finally softened a bit, and he greeted the woman.
"Of course not. I was just chatting with this gentleman. He thought I was too young and didn't believe I was a mentor here."
"There, you can return my card now, right?"
Fu Qian looked at the middle-aged man with a smile.
The latter froze for a moment, seemingly undergoing an intense internal struggle.
After a long while, he finally gave a stiff nod and handed Fu Qian's card over.
...
"I have something to discuss with you, let's talk while we walk."
Although she was clearly somewhat doubtful, seeing that the matter was resolved properly, Lanaya didn't say anything more and directly turned to lead the way.
"What is it?"
Following behind Lanaya, Fu Qian asked while observing the surrounding architecture.
"There's an emergency mission."
Lanaya didn't look at him, explaining quickly.
"Earlier today, the Yuan Consortium approached the Academy. A secret warehouse of theirs locally was robbed, items were lost, and people were killed. They hope the Academy can help investigate."
"Shouldn't this be a matter for the Night Watchers?"
Fu Qian was a bit puzzled.
After so many missions, he had gained some understanding of the rules of this world.
To sum it up simply: for any incident related to supernatural powers, contact the Night Watchers without hesitation.
"Logically, yes, which is why I'm also a bit confused."
Lanaya sighed.
"However, the Committee specifically called me over for this, hoping the Discipline Department could handle it properly. Considering barely anyone is free right now, I'll have to trouble you to take a trip with me."
While speaking, Lanaya had already led Fu Qian into a car, and they sped off toward their destination.
On the way, through roundabout questioning, Fu Qian pretty much figured out his current situation.
His identity this time was indeed a mentor affiliated with the Revelation Institute of the Academy, and one who had just joined not long ago.
Although his strength was decent, because of his shallow seniority, he held a part-time position in the Discipline Department according to custom.
As for Lanaya, not only was she an Academy mentor, but she was also one of the heads of the Discipline Department.
Because this matter was urgent and there was a shortage of personnel, he was drafted directly into service—which could also be considered helping him hit his KPIs.
...
An hour later, the two arrived at the scene of the incident.
By now, the area had been heavily cordoned off. Almost as soon as they stepped out of the car, a group of people looked over warily.
After Lanaya revealed their identities, the two were finally allowed into the scene, where someone was already waiting.
It was a lean middle-aged man with a sharp chin and piercing eyes. He looked quite capable, though his complexion wasn't looking great.
This person clearly knew Lanaya. After greeting her, he looked Fu Qian up and down.
"This is..."
"Fu Qian, also an Academy mentor."
Seeing that Lanaya didn't elaborate, Fu Qian merely gave a slight nod, exuding an air of aloof authority.
