Eldritch Horror Theatre - Ch. 181: The Leisurely Life of a Demigod

In fact, if he hadn't heard the voice, Fu Qian would have almost forgotten this person's existence—Xu Meng, the guy who had just caused him trouble not long ago.

Given that they had only met once, and that was four days ago, any relevant information about this guy had practically been wiped from his memory.

It took Fu Qian a great deal of effort to recall him.

However, this guy clearly wasn't going to let it go. His shouts were filled with intense hatred and endless resentment.

Fu Qian was not surprised by this at all; he never believed in the idea of simply laughing off a grudge.

Perhaps because of Tan Ying, this guy had indeed dropped the idea of using him to vent his anger.

But they were all adults, after all. He was still fully capable of using the psychological coping mechanism of mentally hacking someone to pieces in the void.

The only strange thing was, why would this tough guy's voice appear in his mind?
He really wasn't familiar with him, so even if he were having auditory hallucinations, it shouldn't be him.

Fu Qian held his breath, carefully distinguishing the sound he was hearing.

Half a minute after that resentful shout, the same voice echoed again.

Fu Qian subconsciously focused his attention on it.

*Swish!*
The next moment, a dark veil suddenly unfurled, and Fu Qian found the room instantly turning illusory and hazy.

All around him, in the somewhat dim light, clusters of erratic light spheres flickered and then faded away.

Xu Meng's resentful voice was coming from one of them.

Fu Qian tried reaching out to touch it.
The next moment, his vision flared, and a scene flashed by.

A fiercely glaring Xu Meng was sitting there, the desk in front of him covered in scalding spilled tea.
A plump, well-rounded woman in professional attire stood nearby, keeping quiet out of fear. Not far away, the floor was littered with shattered teacup fragments.

He wasn't even speaking!
The vision quickly ended. Fu Qian watched it from beginning to end. Until Xu Meng stood up and started tearing at the woman's clothes, and she half-heartedly resisted before tumbling onto the sofa with him, Fu Qian never heard his own name mentioned.

Could it be that what he was hearing was inner resentment?

As long as someone thought of him in their heart, he could hear their voice?
Although it was a bit bizarre, this felt like the only logical explanation!

As for why this was happening, Fu Qian had already roughly guessed the reason.
His only change today was that he had advanced to a Whiteboard Demigod.

The description for Demigod specifically mentioned: "Achieved an ascension in the truest sense of origin, officially becoming a Mythical Creature."

It had the word "god" in it, after all; it was only reasonable to possess some miraculous traits.

Having just dealt with a certain Conceptual Creature, Fu Qian didn't find these things particularly hard to accept anymore.

His main account was already ruined; here's wishing Boss Xu robust health in his old age, remaining strong and vigorous, and blooming like an old tree!

Fu Qian ignored Xu Meng and turned to observe his surroundings.
In just this short amount of time, new light spheres had already appeared, while some that were originally dim had completely dissipated.

Fu Qian focused his attention on this newly emerged cluster. The voice coming from within it sounded equally indignant.

The scene unfolded before his eyes again.
In a classroom-like room, Tan Ying, her hair simply tied back, tilted her head, her rosy lips pursed, biting the end of her pen while frowning in thought.
Although she was in class, her eyes were absolutely not looking at the blackboard.

It was just a minor grievance; was there a need to be so resentful?
Fu Qian let out a sigh; this girl really held a grudge!
Without watching further, Fu Qian directly exited the current vision and browsed through a few more in succession.

Qin Mingze, Wu Qingyu... almost all were acquaintances. Most of the visions were already very blurry, likely because they were from further back in time.

Fu Qian felt somewhat fortunate for his miniature social circle.
If he were a celebrity, he would probably be annoyed to death.

Whatever is thought, must be known.

From the looks of it now, the side effect of advancing to a Demigod was that any thought related to him could manifest as a voice transmitted directly into his ears.
And after checking them all, the loudest voice was clearly that of Boss Xu.

Sure enough, your enemies are the ones who pay the most attention to you!
Amidst his lamentations, Fu Qian tried to withdraw his attention from these voices, and the surrounding illusory feeling instantly dissipated.

But even so, a new voice would still pop up every so often, just not as loud as when he actively focused on it.

He had to find a way to block it; he wasn't some sort of voyeur, after all.

Fu Qian frowned and glanced around. The voices appeared directly in his consciousness, so wearing earphones or something similar probably wouldn't work.
Wait a minute! Earphones wouldn't work, but—

Fu Qian remembered something and, without hesitation, activated the mark on his wrist.

The scene shifted, and he entered the Warehouse once again. Fu Qian didn't hesitate and quickly located the item codenamed 3-0177, the [Envoy].

This mask allowed him to synchronize with another world; it should be able to sever this invisible connection.

Donning the bloodstained mask onto his face, the scene before his eyes rapidly transformed.
When his five senses recovered, Fu Qian woke up on the second floor of the bookstore again.

Sitting up from the bed, Fu Qian wasn't in a hurry to do anything. He just stared ahead and waited silently.
Whether it was Xu Meng or Tan Ying, their voices never reappeared—in fact, no voices appeared at all.

However, Fu Qian found this a bit strange instead.
Actually, coming to think of it, his social circle in this world was comparatively wider. Logically, it shouldn't be impossible to hear voices.

In Fu Qian's expectations, after arriving here, while he wouldn't hear the voices of Tan Ying and the others, some voices from this world should have taken their place.

Yet, after waiting for a full half hour, there was absolutely nothing.

Did his Demigod status not cause any changes here?
Was there something special about this world itself?

That's true. The total number of Demigods in this world wasn't exactly small, yet he had never heard of anything similar happening before. It must have its own peculiarities.

What a pity. Fu Qian instantly felt his beautiful hopes dashed.

Being disturbed was one thing, but if the previous effect worked in this world too, then the difficulty of his future missions would definitely plummet.
This was something akin to a mind probe; no one would be able to scheme against him without being detected.

What a shame!
Fu Qian shook his head.

But looking on the bright side, he at least gained an extra place to enjoy some peace and quiet.
Whenever he got too annoyed over there, he could just run over here.

Fu Qian thought as he sized up his surroundings. Judging from the dust on the windowsill, there was almost no difference compared to the first time he synchronized over.
As expected, the flow of time in both worlds was synchronized.

Of course, the most accurate way would still be to just go out later and check the date.

Speaking of which, he hadn't really strolled around this place much.
Fu Qian pondered for a moment, and considering the harassment he would face upon returning, he decided to take a temporary walk here.

...

In this treacherous world, human civilization still received the utmost care and protection!

In a sense, the Night Watchers had really done a good job.

At a shopping mall near the bookstore, Fu Qian was strolling and sighing with emotion when he was suddenly taken aback the next moment.

Not far ahead, Yuan Shan, whose arms were laden with shopping bags, was looking back with a doubtful expression on her face.
