Eldritch Horror Theatre - Ch. 184: White Porcelain Doll (Part 2)

[Mission Updated: Find the perfect White Porcelain Doll.]

At this moment, the mission prompt finally rang in Fu Qian's ears.

The target of this mission is to find this thing? That's not bad!
But there are so many of them, I wonder what exactly "perfect" refers to.

For a moment, Fu Qian observed them even more carefully.
In fact, if he hadn't seen them here, Fu Qian might have even mistaken them for ornaments from a girl's room.

In terms of appearance, each doll was completely unique.
Their unifying trait was that they looked extremely beautiful and cute, with not a single flaw on their harmless little faces.

Unfortunately, right now, they were dripping with blood and gore, creating an extreme contrast.

The dolls' movements were mechanical and stiff, but that didn't mean they were slow!

On the contrary, these little creatures were not only swift in action but possessed exaggerated strength.

Fu Qian watched helplessly as one of them hoisted a piece of bone armor a hundred times its size and threw it out, forcibly snapping a nearby tree in half.

Then it turned back, continuing to bathe in a pool of blood, using both its hands and feet to tear away frantically, stirring up wave after wave of agonized screams.

There were a dozen more just like it, each one looking like it was thoroughly enjoying itself.

In barely a minute, the spider monster was dismantled into a hollow shell and a floor full of scattered parts, utterly devoid of life.
Even a slaughterhouse was nothing compared to this!

While Fu Qian made his internal commentary, he could hear the accelerated heartbeats of the people around him. They didn't even dare to breathe deeply, evidently awestruck by the scene before them.

Including the guy who had called him over; right now, his face was ashen grey, though he was at least somewhat calmer than the others.

This tough guy seemed to be called Delin. Having heard the others refer to him as Team Leader earlier, it was clear he was the commander of this operation.

By now, the dolls had turned the spider's remains into a cradle of flesh and bone, jumping up and down in pure merriment.

Delin didn't make a move, merely staring fixedly in that direction.
After a long while, the group of dolls had finally had enough fun and began to disperse and leave one after another, until only one was left.

The latter was still burying its head in its frantic dismantling, completely oblivious to the fact that its playmates had left.

Now!
Delin swung his hand fiercely. Soundlessly, a large transparent net descended from above, wrapping this last one inside along with the spider remains.

As the giant net abruptly tightened, the frantically dismantling doll finally reacted, but it was already too late.

And upon discovering it was trapped, its reaction was exceedingly violent.
The net was nearly transparent, so the scene inside could be seen with absolute clarity.

The doll seemed entirely deranged, dashing left and right, tearing and stretching the net into all sorts of shapes.

But the resilience of this net was undeniably superb. No matter how much it struggled, it simply couldn't find a way to escape.

"Go!"
Following Delin's command, several people rushed forward.

Seeing itself surrounded, the doll's struggling movements became even more irritable. Its actions produced a sound like styrofoam scraping against glass, madly torturing one's nerves.

The few people rushing at the front instantly revealed expressions of pain.

Forcibly enduring the noise, one of them brought out an iron-black box. He carefully untied an opening in the net and brought the opened box close to it.

The doll's intelligence was evidently not very high. Finally finding a gap, it squeezed forward almost without hesitation and plunged headfirst into the box.

The instant it entered the box, the irritable doll seemed to suddenly rust up; its movements instantly became sluggish.

Click!
The lid of the iron box was snapped shut. Fu Qian heard Delin let out a heavy sigh of relief.

"Well done!"
Seeing the team members returning while carrying the box, he nodded in satisfaction.

At this time, the people ambushing in the surroundings also emerged one after another.
Fu Qian roughly observed them and found they could essentially be divided into two groups.

More than half of them were wearing the same uniform as himself, roughly a dozen or so.
This was clearly one team, who looked only to the nearby Delin for leadership.

At the same time, there was another group of seven or eight people, led by a young man around thirty years old.

Right then, Delin took the iron box and handed it over to the young man.

"Mr. Miyamoto, the first one has been caught. Please inspect it."

"Thank you for your hard work, Team Leader Delin."
The young man praised with a smile on his face, turning to a person behind him.
"Mr. Luo, if you would..."

The one addressed as Mr. Luo was the oldest-looking person on the scene.
His temples were already white, and his entire body was shrouded in a thick grey robe.
Even the youth named Miyamoto showed a highly respectful demeanor when speaking to him.

Mr. Luo stepped forward without a word. He extended an index finger and nudged the lid of the iron box halfway open.

The extremely irritable doll from just a moment ago was now lying stiffly inside, completely unresponsive.

One had to say, the material of this doll was quite unique.
Although it had clearly been bathed in blood just now, after struggling for a bit, not a single trace was left. Its entire body was purely white like jade.

Mr. Luo bent down and looked the doll up and down. He revealed a look of satisfaction and nodded at Miyamoto.

However, right at this instant, before he could even speak, the doll inside the iron box abruptly moved.

It leaped up. Though its speed was slightly slower, its slender arms still thrust straight towards Mr. Luo's eyes.

It was pretending just now? This thing actually knows how to deceive people?
This sudden turn of events instantly triggered a chorus of exclamations.

Click!
Delin, holding the box, reacted the fastest. He closed the lid almost immediately, yet it was still too late.

Faced with the sudden attack, Mr. Luo did not show the slightest panic.
Seeing the leaping doll already flying to his face, he neither dodged nor evaded, and extended his right hand with incomparable naturalness.

The doll's surprise attack was instantly halted as it was lightly pinched in his hand.
It looked effortless, but the incredibly strong doll couldn't move an inch, only screaming continuously.

Holding the doll, Mr. Luo nonchalantly brought it close to his eyes and continued to scrutinize it.

*Crack!*
After turning it over and checking it, Mr. Luo exerted force with his hand, and fine, dense cracks appeared on the doll's surface.
The screaming abruptly stopped.

The next moment, the doll was crushed directly into pieces, clattering to the ground.

Bringing his hand to his nose to sniff, Mr. Luo nodded towards Miyamoto.
"It's viable. It meets the requirements."

"Excellent!"
Miyamoto was clearly very pleased with this result. He turned to Team Leader Delin.
"We'll be troubling you for the rest."

"As agreed previously, in addition to the base commission, there will be extra remuneration for every single one, dead or alive."

"Understood—"
Hearing this, Delin nodded. He handed the iron box to the person behind him, gesturing for him to pick up the pieces on the ground.

The latter wasn't as unrestrained as Mr. Luo. First wearing gloves, he then carefully picked up the scattered pieces on the ground and gathered them into the box.

At the same time, Delin's gaze intentionally or unintentionally drifted towards Mr. Luo.

It was evident that this man's display just now had surprised him somewhat.

Unfortunately, after finishing the appraisal, the latter directly returned to the group, completely ignoring Delin.
