Eldritch Horror Theatre - Ch. 57: The Omen Must Die (Part 3)
Staring at Fu Qian in disbelief for a long time, after confirming she wasn't mistaken, Su Gao bowed deeply to Fu Qian.
And this bow from Su Gao instantly rendered the restaurant dead silent once more.
This guy who called himself an expert actually knew Executioner Su!
And from Executioner Su's demeanor, she even highly respected him.
This turn of events left the Grunt Duo frozen in place, Brother A even forgetting to close his mouth.
Fu Qian didn't care about this at all.
'She really remembers me!'
'This Warehouse is not simple at all!'
"During the last operation, I found you were gone before I even had the chance to thank you.
Later, I thought about it, and if it hadn't been for your guidance, Mr. Fu, the consequences would have been unimaginable.
We tried to look for you afterwards but couldn't find any traces. We even thought your injuries might have flared up... It's so good to see you're alright."
Su Gao was clearly a bit emotional, saying what was likely a year's worth of words all in one breath.
"Thanks for the concern!"
'They really do remember everything! And judging by her words, my teleportation after completing the mission just looked like a sudden disappearance to them? They didn't notice any special anomalies.'
A ton of information flashed through Fu Qian's mind in an instant, but outwardly, he just nodded and casually returned the greeting.
"And there's no need to be so polite, just call me Fu Qian!"
"Last time, I also thought I was going to die. I didn't expect to survive by a stroke of luck in the end. My injuries healed a long time ago. I can only say that good and evil ultimately get their just deserts."
Fu Qian shamelessly branded himself as part of the righteous faction without blushing.
"Mhm!"
Regarding Fu Qian's vague explanation, Su Gao didn't question it at all and merely nodded earnestly in agreement.
Then she suddenly thought of something, and her eyes lit up.
"Your appearance here this time... could it be you're also here to deal with The Omen?"
"Exactly!"
'Just as I guessed! This will save a lot of effort.' Fu Qian nodded, extremely satisfied.
This person's goal aligned with his.
A look of pleasant surprise appeared on Su Gao's face, and she inexplicably felt much more reassured in her heart.
"That's great!"
There was even a hint of joy in her voice, but she quickly returned to normal, pointing a finger in the direction of the beheaded young woman.
"What do you make of this?"
"I'm just here to eat today, you just carry on with your work."
Fu Qian had little interest in the bloody murder scene before him and just wanted to be a spectator, so he replied inscrutably.
"Understood."
Regarding Fu Qian's slacking off, Su Gao didn't mind at all and turned her attention back to the crime scene.
Their previous experience had given her an almost blind trust in Fu Qian.
"Mr. Fu?"
The Grunt Duo cautiously edged closer at this moment.
Su Gao's attitude towards Fu Qian had somewhat startled them.
Listening to their conversation, this person had even done Executioner Su a massive favor?
No wonder he gave off an unfathomable vibe.
"I'm Lu Jun, an official member of the Xiyuan City Night Watchers squad. I was a bit impolite just now, please don't take offense."
Grunt A hesitated repeatedly before finally offering an earnest apology.
In a high-martial world, the basic rule of respecting the strong still applied.
Although as a member of the Night Watchers, Lu Jun wasn't necessarily afraid of Fu Qian, respect for the strong was practically carved into his bones.
"It's fine."
Fu Qian wasn't going to lower himself to this fellow's level because he always considered himself a reasonable person.
He knew very well how much aggro his previous freewheeling attitude drew, and it was at a crime scene too, so drawing suspicion was completely normal.
If this guy had no reaction at all, that would be a dereliction of duty.
Seeing how easygoing Fu Qian was, Brother Lu Jun clearly breathed a sigh of relief and turned his attention to the current case.
"We've investigated the situation. The deceased's name is Geng Yue, married. Today's lunch was booked two weeks ago, but the other person never showed up. She had been waiting here for about half an hour prior.
Judging by the wounds, we've confirmed this was the work of a Beyonder. It's highly likely to be The Omen we are looking for."
"It is indeed a Beyonder's method, but we can't be certain yet that it was The Omen."
Su Gao nodded.
"Although killing in a public place to incite fear resembles The Omen's behavioral patterns, it's still unwise to jump to conclusions too quickly."
"Proceed with the investigation and handling as a normal Beyonder homicide for now."
"Understood."
Lu Jun hastily agreed. It was obvious Su Gao put a lot of pressure on the two Night Watchers; they spoke to her very cautiously.
"The other reserved person never showing up is highly unusual. We've decided to start the investigation from this angle, for example, by going to find her husband first. What do you think?"
As Lu Jun asked this, Su Gao naturally turned her gaze toward Fu Qian, seemingly seeking his opinion.
'Don't look at me with that expression!'
'He's asking for your opinion, okay? What's with this fangirl-like posture?'
'Now that you have a professional here, you've completely given up on thinking, huh?'
Fu Qian thought for a moment.
"Looking for the husband is a move that can never go wrong, but you'd better also look into this guy who failed to show up. There might be more valuable clues there."
"Are you saying the person who didn't show up wasn't her husband?"
Lu Jun looked surprised.
"You're not married yet, are you?"
Fu Qian looked at him and shook his head.
"How did you kn—what do you mean?"
"I could tell from your naive way of thinking. Do you have some overly high expectations for marriage?"
Fu Qian sighed.
"A married woman books a restaurant half a month in advance, dresses up meticulously, arrives early to wait for her husband, and then, after waiting for half an hour without him showing up, she hasn't pulled out a knife to kill him yet. In what kind of posture do you have to sleep to dream up such a scenario?"
...
After successfully making a young man realize the cruel reality of marriage, the group left the restaurant where the incident occurred.
As for the victim's body, since she was an ordinary person and the necessary information had been gathered, the rest was left for local security personnel to handle.
The Night Watchers had their own set of rules regarding this.
"After the last operation, I applied to join the Executioner Group, which specializes in hunting down Beyonder criminals. The Omen is my first target."
"This guy is quite strong and his actions are reckless. He kills almost entirely based on his mood, and his targets aren't limited to Beyonders.
Because his movements are secretive, we still know very little about him so far.
Plus, he quickly moves on after committing a bloody crime in one place. Currently, we can only track him based on his modus operandi. I tracked The Omen all the way here."
On the way back to the Night Watchers Base, Su Gao briefly explained the current situation.
And from the information she revealed, this The Omen was indeed not easy to deal with. To think the vastly resourceful Night Watchers didn't even know his name—finding him was going to be difficult.
Additionally, a point Fu Qian cared about was that the meaning of his current mission was clear: kill The Omen before the disaster happens.
This "disaster" certainly didn't refer to The Omen's killing sprees, so what could it be? And how was it related to The Omen?
