Eldritch Horror Theatre - Ch. 58: The Omen Must Die (Part 4)
Su Gao's words were as sparse as ever. Seeing Fu Qian deep in thought, she remained quiet and spoke no more.
The two Night Watchers had left halfway to investigate the beheaded young woman's home, leaving only the two of them in the car.
Fu Qian paid attention to the scenery outside.
He had to admit, this place had quite beautiful scenery. Antique architecture, bustling crowds, and people taking leisurely walks under the gentle sunshine.
It was hard to imagine what kind of disaster could befall them.
They were on their way to the Xiyuan City Night Watchers Base.
Su Gao had just mentioned that the Night Watchers Base here had some files on "The Omen" and suggested Fu Qian could take a look.
Naturally, Fu Qian couldn't ask for anything better.
As the undisputed number one organization in this world, getting some information on the target from the Night Watchers was the best-case scenario for him.
Having thought about the disaster for a while without getting any clues, Fu Qian returned his attention to Su Gao.
With her curved sword resting on her lap, sitting quietly, Su Gao hardly felt like a living person.
The actual flesh and blood on her face took up less than a third now; the rest exposed white porcelain-like bone. Looking at her, one would almost think she was a dilapidated life-sized doll.
But Fu Qian clearly knew that compared to last time, her strength had increased by much more than just a little bit.
It was hard to imagine what had happened in between.
'Executioner'. The title alone sounded murderous, and her status within the Night Watchers was probably not low.
Listening to the meaning, it sounded like a hunter role, unrestricted by region, chasing outlaws everywhere.
According to Su Gao, she only applied to join this special department after the last incident.
It seemed the events from last time affected her far more deeply than her lighthearted retelling suggested.
However, if she didn't bring it up herself, Fu Qian wouldn't ask.
"So you're like a hunter now? Specifically hunting down targets on the Night Watchers' list?"
"Yes."
Su Gao lowered her eyes and nodded slightly.
"I feel... I'm more suited for this kind of work."
'This kind of work? Hunting?'
'Then you are indeed one of the top experts!'
Fu Qian touched his chest. If nothing else, this girl's sword techniques were nothing short of brutal.
Of course, this was definitely a good thing for him.
A powerful teammate at least in the Middle Tier, who even belonged to a special ops department—she was perfectly suited for this mission.
As they spoke, they arrived at the Night Watchers Base in Xiyuan City.
Unlike the arrogant and imposing skyscraper of Qi Xue and his group, this place looked much more shabby in comparison.
A three-story building with a dark red exterior, looking quite aged from the outside.
"Executioner Su, how is the situation?"
As soon as they walked in, someone came out to greet them.
This person looked to be in his forties, with slightly greying temples and dressed quite casually.
The man was noticeably surprised to see Fu Qian, wondering how an extra person appeared after just one trip out.
Consequently, he looked at Su Gao, hoping she could explain.
"It was indeed done by a Beyonder, but we can't confirm it was The Omen yet."
Su Gao nodded.
"Team Leader Qiao, please get me the files on The Omen."
'Team Leader? This guy is actually the person in charge of Xiyuan City?'
Fu Qian sized up Team Leader Qiao before him. Aura-wise, he was indeed a tier above Lu Jun and the other guy, roughly around Tier 7.
Xiyuan City wasn't large, but regardless, the Night Watchers' staffing here was too excessively shabby.
Hearing that Su Gao wanted to see The Omen's files again, Team Leader Qiao was clearly a bit puzzled.
After hesitating for a moment, he gathered his courage and looked at Fu Qian.
"And this is...?"
"This is Mr. Fu."
Without waiting for Fu Qian to answer, Su Gao stated directly.
'And then?'
Team Leader Qiao stared eagerly at Su Gao for a few seconds, hoping she'd elaborate, but unfortunately, she was clearly someone who treasured her words like gold, merely staring back at him.
Ultimately, Team Leader Qiao was the first to succumb to the pressure, running to the back to bring out a document.
"Thank you!"
Su Gao reached out to take it and handed it to Fu Qian without hesitation.
Team Leader Qiao's eyes widened; these were confidential documents!
But recalling the rumors of how this person would hack people down over the slightest disagreement, he held his tongue and didn't dare to speak.
It really was just a tiny bit of information!
Fu Qian felt the few thin pages in his hand, the vast majority of which were just The Omen's criminal records.
Regarding information about the person himself, apart from the fact that he was male, there was almost nothing.
However, from these criminal records, one could clearly sense an element of sadistic torture. Most of the corpses were mutilated and deformed, with some even missing internal organs. The notes indicated "possibly devoured."
"Speaking of which, why is this guy called The Omen?"
Fu Qian flipped through the documents rapidly and thought of a question.
"He called himself that."
Su Gao explained softly from the side.
"The target once left behind a similar message after a crime, and later on, everyone uniformly used this name to refer to him."
"It seems his targets are still primarily Beyonders?"
He had just noticed that the majority of the victims were still Beyonders, rarely involving ordinary people.
"Yes, but there is almost no commonality among the deceased. As of now, it seems he kills purely for the sake of killing."
"In fact, if we include the incident just now, this is already The Omen's second operation in Xiyuan City."
"The first victim was also a Beyonder. It feels like his crime frequency is getting higher."
"Mhm."
Fu Qian turned to face Team Leader Qiao.
"Team Leader Qiao, can I take a look at the Beyonder roster?"
"The Beyonder roster?"
Fu Qian's request made Team Leader Qiao pause.
"The roster of all Beyonders within Xiyuan City. I believe you definitely have one."
"We do have it, but..."
Team Leader Qiao still wanted to struggle a bit, but a sidelong glance from Su Gao instantly made him shut up.
Huang Lezhan, Huang Jianyuan, Huang Zhaoliu...
As Fu Qian flipped through the roster before him, his frown deepened.
"Why is everyone surnamed Huang?"
"You don't know?"
Team Leader Qiao was equally surprised.
"The Huang family is one of the top-tier Beyonder families right now. Although the Xiyuan Huang Family is just a branch, their lineage spans over a century, so it's normal for them to have accumulated some foundation.
Plus, Xiyuan isn't large to begin with, so indeed, the vast majority of Beyonders here hail from their family."
'So that's how it is!'
Local powerhouses like this could basically easily monopolize cultivation resources. Paired with bloodline inheritance, spamming the roster wasn't too strange.
Looking at it, more than half of all Beyonders in Xiyuan were from the Huang family. Having operated here for a century, a family like this probably held absolute sway over the local area.
Could this be the reason for the Night Watchers' shabby lineup here? Did both sides have some sort of tacit understanding in certain aspects?
But this didn't matter. Having such a family exist was simply—wonderful!
A Beyonder family entrenched in the local area for a hundred years would definitely be highly informed.
As long as they had the right motivation, their efficiency in getting things done would certainly be quite high.
"Have you had any contact with them?"
Fu Qian looked at Su Gao, who shook her head.
"I also arrived not long ago."
"In that case..."
Fu Qian pondered for a moment.
"Let's find time to pay them a visit."
Not knowing Fu Qian's background, Team Leader Qiao frowned and reminded him.
"Although we don't need to care about these local factions, we should still be careful when dealing with them. If they are willing to cooperate on certain matters, it will save us a lot of effort."
"Don't worry."
Fu Qian remembered Ji Liushuang and the others he had encountered in The Furnace.
"I have extensive experience in dealing with them."
