Horror Camgirl - Ch. 78: Unexpected Harvest
I once heard my grandmother say that after this scoundrel divorced my parents, he married a wealthy heiress, becoming someone else's favored son-in-law, and they had a son and a daughter. His company grew bigger and bigger, and he was living quite the prosperous life.
Perhaps in his heart, I am the greatest shame of his life.
“Dad, look at how beautiful this jade necklace looks on me. At my grandfather's birthday banquet next month, I will definitely overshadow everyone,” the girl said playfully.
Yuan Wen nodded indulgently, “Then buy it.”
“Miss Yuan is a regular customer in our shop; I’ll give her a 10% discount, totaling 23 million.”
Yuan Wen didn't even blink and said, “As long as my precious daughter is happy, what’s that little money?”
The girl’s eyes squinted with joy.
I clenched my fists. He wouldn’t even give me a penny for child support, yet he was so generous buying jewelry for this girl.
“Wow, this jade bottle is so beautiful.” The girl immediately took a liking to the jade bottle I had used for display, picking it up and looking at it repeatedly. “I’ll take this.”
The fat shop owner said, “Sorry, this jade bottle belongs to this lady.”
The girl looked at me. I was dressed in cheap sportswear, wearing a hat and mask. She carelessly said, “I want this jade bottle; name your price. As long as it's reasonable, I won’t haggle.”
“I’m not selling it,” I quickly reached out and took the jade bottle back. The movement was so fast that she only felt a blur before her hands were empty.
I looked at the fat owner and said, “Mr. Ma, I’ll come to pick up the goods we ordered in three days.”
After saying that, I turned and left. The girl’s eyes flashed with displeasure as she said, “Who is this person? So rude.”
Mr. Ma smiled and said, “Why don’t you two take a look at something else?”
“Boss, who is she?” The girl pressed, unwilling to let it go.
“She is Madam Yuan.”
“She has the surname Yuan too?” The girl scoffed, “She is even worthy of the Yuan surname?”
Yuan Wen frowned, feeling that this woman seemed familiar.
Once I exited the jade shop, my eyes were icy. I had long passed the age of being attached to my parents; I considered my father dead and had no more ties with him from now on.
I wandered along the jade street until I suddenly stopped in front of a shop called Ju Yu Ge.
There were several potted plants outside Ju Yu Ge, looking withered and ready to be thrown away.
However, one of the pots had Mo Luo Fruit in it.
Mo Luo Fruit is an extremely precious Spiritual Medicine and a primary material for refining foundation-building pills.
Foundation-building pills are what cultivators need to consume when they advance from the second to the third rank. Taking it significantly increases the chances of success in promotion and, most importantly, improves physical constitution, laying a solid foundation for future advancements to higher ranks.
Such a precious Spiritual Plant was casually discarded outside. What a waste!
“Xiao Chen, move those potted plants away and throw them out, do you hear me?” the shopkeeper shouted. A young boy answered and ran out, carrying pots one in each hand toward the trash can by the roadside.
The roots of Mo Luo Fruit are delicate; if he damages it, it would be over.
“Hey, wait!” I hurried over and said, “This potted plant looks pretty good. What a shame to throw it away; could you give it to me? Maybe I can save it.”
The boy, somewhat green, replied, “Since it’s going to be thrown away anyway, I’ll give it to you.”
“Thank you!” I smiled as I reached out to take it when suddenly a somewhat sharp voice said, “I bought this pot with my hard-earned money.”
I looked up to see the shopkeeper, eyebrows raised, staring at me. I said, “If that’s the case, I’ll pay to buy it; how much?”
A glimmer of greed appeared in the shopkeeper's eyes as he said, “Not to mention, this pot is worth quite a bit. Let’s see… the large pot is 500, the small pot is 300, and you can take them.”
My face darkened immediately; was he treating me like a fool? I withdrew my hand and said, “Forget it; I think these potted plants won’t survive, so why waste my money?”
After saying that, I turned to leave, but the shopkeeper hurriedly said, “Wait, the price is negotiable! The large ones are 300, and the small ones are 100.”
I scoffed, “I’m not interested anymore.”
The shopkeeper gritted his teeth; since they were all about to be thrown away anyway, he said, “Fine, fine. I’ll take a loss; the large ones are 100, the small ones are 50.”
“Then I’ll take these two small ones.” I took the pots from the boy and handed him 100.
“Wait!” Suddenly, someone shouted loudly, “I’ll pay 500 for a pot. I’ll buy it.”
I frowned and turned around, and sure enough, it was Yuan Wen and his daughter.
The girl raised her chin in triumph, probably seeking revenge for me taking the jade bottle from earlier, which embarrassed her.
How childish.
“Money and goods should be exchanged clearly; the things are already mine,” I said coolly.
The girl huffed, “I’ll pay 1000 for a pot.”
The shopkeeper, seeing money, hurried over to me and said, “I won’t sell the potted plant to you; here’s your 100 back.”
I spun around to evade his hand, raising my voice, “How can you at Ju Yu Ge do this? I’ve already paid; do you still want to take the items back and sell them at a higher price? Is this how you do business? If you can’t even follow the rules over a potted plant, how can you handle jade trading?”
My voice carried a hint of Spiritual Power, loud enough for the whole street to hear. Customers passing by who were looking to buy jade shot disdainful glances at the shopkeeper.
“Want to take back what was already paid for? You’re really greedy for money.”
“I’ve heard the boss of Ju Yu Ge is a scammer; my aunt bought a fake item there last time and was recognized at a banquet, losing face badly.”
“A scammer like this, why not go smash their sign?”
The shopkeeper's face burned with embarrassment, and he hurriedly said, “Misunderstanding, misunderstanding! I was just discussing with this lady!”
I shot a cold glance at the Yuan father and daughter before turning away, striding off, while the girl stomped her feet in anger.
“Alright, alright, Xiao Wei, you are a wealthy young lady; how can you argue with a market woman?” Yuan Wen consoled her.
A market woman?
I turned back and coldly glared at him, saying, “Better than being a heartless man who abandons his wife and child to climb the social ladder and marry a wealthy heiress.”
Yuan Wen was taken aback, frowning. I quickened my pace and left the jade street.
Yuan Wen got into his Benz and made a phone call: “Find out about someone for me.”
After getting home, I carefully placed the Mo Luo Fruit pot on the balcony and injected a wisp of Spiritual Energy into its roots. Its leaves shook a bit and immediately perked up.
Mo Luo Fruit needs a lot of water; Ju Yu Ge probably hadn’t watered it well, which is why it looked so wilted.
Looking at the thumb-sized green fruit growing among the leaves, I felt excited. Once I obtain the formula for the foundation-building pill and refine it, my future cultivation will go smoothly.
I made chicken soup and went to the hospital to take care of my brother. After leaving the ward, I saw Qin Ai angrily speaking into the phone: “Wu Yujie isn’t a good person. Don’t be fooled by his sweet words.”
He argued with the person on the other end for a while, finally saying, “I’ll go with you tonight; if he dares to do anything to you, I’ll take care of him.”
Just after he hung up, the head nurse called out, “Doctor Qin, a patient just arrived in critical condition and needs immediate surgery!”
Qin Ai panicked, “I have urgent business tonight.”
The head nurse said, “Other doctors are all in surgery, Doctor Qin; that patient is close to dying.”
Qin Ai was sweating profusely with anxiety. I hurried over, “Doctor Qin, is there anything I can do to help?”
Qin Ai said, “Madam Yuan, do you know any martial arts?”
I nodded, and Qin Ai grasped my hand, saying, “Please help me.”
It turned out to be Qin Ai’s cousin, Qin Ni. A playboy was pursuing her, and today was Qin Ni's birthday. Wu Yujie had invited several friends from their circle to celebrate at a private club called Synthia Club.
Synthia Club is a small luxury cruise ship that docks at the harbor. Every evening, it holds parties, sailing away from the harbor for a night on the Yangtze River, returning the next morning.
I understood why Qin Ai was so worried; if Wu Yujie had ill intentions, Qin Ni wouldn’t even have a chance to escape.
