Eldritch Horror Theatre - Ch. 106: The Hunter Desires Blood (Part 6)
As expected, the Night Watchers didn't gain much on their end. Soon, Chen Xing finished communicating with poker-face and announced the end of the banquet, allowing everyone to head home on their own.
Seeing the guests gradually evacuate, Fu Qian also drove away from the manor. He was just pondering where to look up information on that middle-aged man when he suddenly noticed a car following him from a distance.
Where did I expose a flaw to arouse suspicion?
Fu Qian frowned in deep thought, imperceptibly slowing down his speed.
If some oversight had truly been noticed, he needed to confirm and clean it up as soon as possible.
As Fu Qian decelerated, the car behind quickly caught up.
The next moment, Fu Qian detected a familiar aura in his perception.
Wen Li?
What is this girl trying to do?
Fu Qian simply pulled his car over by the roadside. Soon, the car behind followed suit and parked alongside.
The door opened, and sure enough, Wen Li stepped out and quickly approached.
Seeing Fu Qian looking at her with a frown, Wen Li inexplicably felt a bit uneasy. She glanced around to ensure no one was around.
"Excuse me... are you... Mr. Fu?"
!!!
Fu Qian's shock at this moment was no small matter.
I'm layered up in disguises like this, how did you even recognize me?
"It really is you!"
Before he could answer, Wen Li's face filled with a mix of surprise and joy, and she lowered her voice further.
"I haven't had the chance to thank you for your help last time, and now you've saved my life once again."
"You're welcome. Just think of yourself as a Daughter of Destiny."
At this point, there was no sense in denying it. Fu Qian changed his voice back to normal.
"How did you recognize me?"
This genuinely puzzled him; he was layered in disguises like a Matryoshka doll.
"Your disguise was perfect, completely flawless."
Wen Li shook her head, looking slightly bashful.
"It's just that when we met at the banquet earlier, I felt you were a bit surprised to see me..."
"And then, when I got kicked just now, it felt inexplicably familiar, so I took the liberty of testing it out."
Are you kidding me, that works too?!
Did you gain experience from being a masochist?
Even before her upgrade, Wen Li could perceive the emotions of those around her. After her upgrade, this aspect should be even more enhanced. Being able to sense his emotional changes wasn't too strange.
This also served as a reminder to himself. This world had many bizarre abilities; he needed to be more cautious and vigilant in the future.
"Alright."
Fu Qian shook his head. The muscles on his face shifted, and he soon restored Fang Xun's face.
"You..."
Now it was Wen Li's turn to be dumbfounded, subconsciously taking a step back.
"Double insurance."
Fu Qian didn't want to explain too much.
"Oh."
Wen Li tactfully didn't pry further. After a moment of silence, she remembered a question.
"Then, the face you showed last time was your true face, right?"
"What else? Did you think I was a thousand-layer cake?"
"...That's good."
Wen Li looked at Fu Qian happily.
"This face isn't as handsome as the previous one."
...This kid sure knows how to talk!
Fu Qian instantly decided to forgive her presumptuous probing.
Seeing that Fu Qian was in a decent mood, Wen Li's expression also relaxed.
"Last time, I broke through with your help, but you left before I could even thank you. My father and I have always been very regretful about that."
That's practically lying through her teeth!
I can understand your regret, but your dad saw you come out of the Safe House looking disheveled. Are you sure he regrets not thanking me?
"I even specifically sought out Team Leader Gu later and earnestly asked for your information. Unfortunately, Team Leader Gu told me you hadn't been with the team for long and very little was known about your personal details. Consequently, we couldn't track you down."
"I'm a person who keeps public and private matters quite separate. I never reply to messages outside of working hours."
"When my father asked me to come to Shangjing, I was somewhat hesitant. I didn't expect to run into you right after arriving here."
Wen Li became more elated as she spoke.
"With such a tight disguise right now, are you executing some secret mission?"
"First of all, this is a one-time thing."
Fu Qian pointed to himself.
"Secondly, there's a flaw in your logic. If it were a secret mission, could I tell you?"
"...That's true, sorry for my presumption."
Wen Li quickly apologized, then suddenly remembered something else.
"Your actions... wouldn't happen to be related to the theft at the Night Watchers' Warehouse, would they?"
You know quite a bit, young lady!
Fu Qian immediately grew interested.
"How do you know the Night Watchers' Warehouse was robbed?"
"I just heard it through the grapevine."
Wen Li giggled.
"I visited some elders over the past couple of days and heard someone mention an incident at the Nightwatcher Base. It seems an insider stole a certain item and fled, and they are currently hunting him down everywhere."
"I originally just treated it as a piece of news, but I didn't expect to run into such a situation tonight, almost losing my life."
Wen Li had a look of lingering fear on her face.
"Do you know what that person is called?"
"I think his name is Henrik."
Henrik...
So it really was an inside job; the guard stole the Blood of Thorns.
Although the guy escaped tonight, he was already injured.
He couldn't escape Shangjing before, and it's even more impossible now. Next, he can only hide everywhere.
His current rival is actually the Night Watchers, who are also looking for him.
Yuan Shan obviously knew something to be able to accurately lock onto a place like Houhai Manor.
This was information he lacked. After all, both the person and the item belonged to them. He was at a great disadvantage in this regard.
"Mr. Fu, where is your residence in Shangjing?"
As Fu Qian remained silent, Wen Li thought of something and asked with blinking eyes.
Where do I live?
Fu Qian remembered his thoroughly wrecked bookstore. That place was definitely uninhabitable now.
"Whenever you have time, you can drop by my place so I can express my gratitude."
Wen Li handed over a business card.
Fu Qian took it and glanced at it. Despite her young age, she actually carried the title of Vice President of the Wen Group!
Was she sent here to expand their territory?
Fu Qian shook his head inwardly. Wen Li was a proper Middle Tier Beyonder. No matter how much of a business genius she was, Wen Xiuxian wouldn't let her waste her energy on something like making money.
It was highly likely for the sake of her future, right?
After a successful promotion, continuing to hole up in that kind of small place would undoubtedly do no good for her development.
Throwing her into Shangjing, a hub for Beyonders, was nominally to develop business here, but essentially to give her more opportunities to interact with the Beyonder world.
It was evident from the attitudes of the two Chen family scions today. Although she had just arrived, she had already garnered quite a bit of attention.
Wen Xiuxian really had it rough being a father!
However, as for attention, the less he had, the better it was for himself.
While thinking, Fu Qian drove the car back to the place with the broken tree.
After turning off the engine, Fu Qian found the still-unconscious Zha Yingjun, dragged him out, threw him into the car, closed the door, and strutted away.
Although I commandeered your clothes and car, I also helped you show off quite a bit at the banquet, laying a solid foundation for your future socializing.
You didn't lose out on this deal.
