Eldritch Horror Theatre - Ch. 122: The Hunter Thirsts for Blood (22)

The surroundings fell into a deathly silence.

Everyone stared at Chen Xing, who was splattered with blood.

He was originally dressed in fine, embroidered clothes, looking majestic and fierce. Now, forced to kill his own son with his own hands, his complexion was incredibly ashen, looking as if he were suddenly in his twilight years.

"Chief Yuan, I will take my people and head back first." After a long time, Chen Xing slowly raised his head to look at Yuan Shan, his voice hoarse and heavy. "Mingda's corpse... I will leave here."

"Alright." Yuan Shan nodded, not saying much.

Chen Mingda had clearly been corrupted. Although regrettable, it was absolutely impossible to let him take the corpse away. It could only be said that Chen Xing still knew his limits.

After finishing his sentence, Chen Xing bent down again and glanced at the headless corpse lying beside him, his eyes full of deep sorrow.

Right at this moment, a sudden mutation occurred.

Amidst a wave of exclamations, a slender, bloody strip of flesh shot out like lightning from Chen Mingda's swollen severed neck. In almost an instant, the strip of flesh wrapped tightly around Chen Xing's neck.

"Father." Chen Mingda's voice rang out once again. "Are you just going to abandon me here?!"

The surface of the fleshy strip wrapped tightly around Chen Xing rapidly split into countless dense tentacles, extending madly in all directions, attempting to burrow into Chen Xing's body.

Attacked so suddenly, Chen Xing was completely entangled in an instant. Yet he showed no signs of panic, not even struggling; he just stared dead at Chen Mingda's corpse with a look of absolute despair.

Hmm?

In the distance, Yuan Shan was just about to intervene when she suddenly noticed something and stopped her movements.

The next moment, a bizarre distortion appeared around Chen Xing's body. Everything seemed to freeze. The bloody fleshy strip instantly stiffened like a rock, devoid of any movement.

Hmm?

To the side, Fu Qian narrowed his eyes.

Half-kneeling on the ground, Chen Xing exuded an indescribable eeriness, like a puppet entirely devoid of life. However, one could clearly sense that the intensity of Chen Xing's aura was skyrocketing madly.

The next moment, the countless tentacles wrapping around his head and face crumbled into dust in almost an instant.

It didn't even end there. This disintegration continued to propagate, extending backwards all the way to Chen Mingda's corpse. Amidst shrill, wretched screams, the latter began to turn into ashes, little by little.

This is!

Everyone watched the scene before them in disbelief.

Chen Xing stood up once more, his eyes devoid of sorrow or joy, his body brimming with an indescribably mysterious aura.

Demigod?

A thought arose in everyone's minds. He advanced? Under the special state of mind brought about by the pain of losing his son, Chen Xing had actually broken through the barrier and advanced directly to the legendary Demigod realm?

As the initial shock faded, the Chen family descendants who realized what had happened could hardly suppress the excitement in their hearts. The Chen Family had not seen a Demigod in many years... No one understood the value of a Demigod better than they did.

For the Chen Family, this was a profoundly great thing. Although the price was somewhat steep.

"Interesting." Before Chen Mingda's body was completely disintegrated, that voice sighed one last sentence, then dissipated completely.

Sigh!

Not far away, Fu Qian shook his head. He had been staring at Chen Mingda's corpse the entire time, but until it turned to ashes, he still hadn't found anything that could be the Blood of Thorns.

"Congratulations." At this moment, Yuan Shan let out a long breath and spoke softly to Chen Xing.

Chen Xing first looked at himself, then at the completely dissolved Chen Mingda, his eyes complex. After a long time, he gave a slight nod to Yuan Shan. Without even greeting the Chen family descendants, he walked straight into the distance.

Leaving a group of people feeling somewhat lost. After hesitating for a moment, the Chen family descendants hurriedly followed.

There was nothing left of Chen Mingda's corpse, but Poker Face still ordered his men to cordon off the area.

After looking at Henrik's corpse for a long while, Yuan Shan scanned the surroundings and walked over to Fu Qian.

"I need to express my thanks. Our previous grievances are wiped clean."

It was apparent that proving Henrik's innocence made her feel much better. Earlier, due to Henrik's actions, Yuan Shan had indeed suspected Chen Mingda, but unfortunately, she lacked evidence.

But she hadn't expected Fu Qian to just go right up like that, completely disregarding the consequences. Judging from his past behavior, she knew this guy acted differently from ordinary people, but she still hadn't expected him to be audacious to this extent. She had even been thinking about how to clean up the mess earlier.

Sometimes, having someone who breaks the rules to get things done wasn't a bad thing.

"That sounds good." Fu Qian nodded casually.

The 'grievances' Yuan Shan mentioned obviously referred to his nighttime break-in at the Nightwatcher Base.

*Who is this guy?*

Hearing their conversation, the looks in the eyes of the people around them changed. He looks so young, yet he actually had grievances with a Demigod? And isn't his posture in this conversation a bit too high?

Earlier, everyone's attention had been captivated by Chen Xing. Now, the group recalled Fu Qian's crazy actions from just moments ago. Attacking directly and without hesitation when there was zero evidence, using strange methods to force Chen Mingda to reveal his true form.

And it seemed he had a prior understanding with Yuan Shan. While he committed the assault, Yuan Shan helped him block Chen Xing.

*Did this mysterious expert owe Yuan Shan a favor because of a certain matter and come specifically to help? Were his actions just now authorized by Yuan Shan?* Combining their conversation, this was the subconscious judgment of most people.

The crowd's gazes towards Fu Qian became increasingly cautious.

"Are you really not going to consider joining the Night Watchers?" Yuan Shan said with a smile again.

"No thanks. If you ever need help again some day, I can provide paid services," Fu Qian replied.

"Then shall we head back to the Nightwatcher Base together?"

"No thanks, you'll definitely be very busy. I won't join in on the commotion."

"Yeah, a huge pile of reports to write, and I still have to arrange the pursuit of the Primordial Council members. Though, knowing their style, they've most likely escaped already. But aren't you going to pick up Wen Li?"

"Why would I go pick up Wen Li?" Fu Qian looked bewildered. "I'm not her bodyguard, not to mention the crisis is over now. In Shangjing, I'm just a guy who runs a bookstore."

...

Alright!

Seeing Fu Qian's resolute attitude, Yuan Shan didn't dawdle either. She waved her hand and led most of the people away.

Poker Face led his people to finish cleaning up the debris on the ground, looking at Fu Qian with confusion before leaving. He completely couldn't figure out when this person had reached a tacit understanding with Yuan Shan.

Soon, Fu Qian was the only one left at the scene.

*Alright! The competitor has been dealt with, the mission officially begins.*

Fu Qian watched the direction the Night Watchers left, rubbing his hands together in anticipation. Coming here seemed to yield nothing, but in reality, the harvest was plentiful.

After proving Henrik's innocence, Yuan Shan had undoubtedly pushed all the blame onto the Primordial Council. Although they would investigate, it was highly likely just adding another tally to the organization's ledger of crimes, followed by routine operations.

Moreover, he could tell she wasn't particularly obsessed with the lost Blood of Thorns.

Under these circumstances, he could finally act without restraint.
