Horror Camgirl - Ch. 97: Ghost-faced Worm Gu
I originally just wanted to have a low-profile meal, but people kept coming over to chat with me. I didn't want to be rude, so I forced a smile and made small talk.
Their gazes were probing, constantly and subtly trying to ask about the Elixir Pill. I just kept smiling without answering.
At that moment, Li Feng's phone suddenly rang. After answering it, her face turned grim. She turned to Commissioner Fang and said, “There’s an incident at Lianhua Mall in the city center. I request that Ms. Yuan Junyao be temporarily assigned to us to help resolve the case.”
Commissioner Fang frowned and asked, “What happened? Is it serious?”
“Very serious,” Li Feng replied, her brows furrowed and face darkening. “Nearly a hundred people have already fallen ill. The health department has sealed off the mall, but the situation is dire. It’s not a typical outbreak; it could be Gu poison.”
Commissioner Fang's expression shifted dramatically, and he stood up abruptly. “Is it the Golden Gu Sect?”
Li Feng nodded, “Very likely.”
Commissioner Fang looked at me and asked, “Madam Yuan, what do you think?”
With nearly a hundred people already poisoned, what else could I say?
“I’m willing to go,” I nodded.
Hu Qingyu quickly interjected, “Our Mountain City Division has the duty to protect Madam Yuan. We request to accompany her.”
Li Feng was about to refuse, but Commissioner Fang said, “The more, the better. You can all go together.”
His face was solemn as he added, “Today is our Special Department’s quarterly meeting. Choosing this moment to strike is clearly a provocation against us. If necessary, everyone here must participate in the operation to eliminate the Golden Gu Sect.”
We immediately drove to Lianhua Mall. Outside the mall, a police cordon had been set up, with transparent plastic barriers erected inside. Countless personnel in hazmat suits were moving in and out.
A crowd of curious onlookers and anxious family members gathered outside the mall, particularly the relatives of those affected, who were loudly arguing with the police trying to maintain order.
We exited the vehicle, donned protective suits, and entered the quarantine zone. A man in a hazmat suit approached us, and Li Feng asked, “Xiao Qin, what’s the situation?”
“It’s terrible,” Xiao Qin replied with a grim expression. “The number of people who have fallen ill has reached two hundred, and everyone who came into contact with them is at risk of infection.”
Xiao Qin explained that tonight was Lianhua Mall’s anniversary sale, so it was packed with people. The first patient collapsed in a clothing store, suddenly suffering from an extremely swollen stomach, unbearable pain, followed by bouts of diarrhea and vomiting—expelling countless tiny worms.
Soon after, a second and third patient appeared. Health department officials arrived to investigate and discovered that all the affected patients had recently had coffee at the Xingke Café. After they left, every person they came into contact with fell ill, and anyone those people interacted with were also at risk.
Li Feng’s face turned pale as she said, “So, you’re saying that the people they came into contact with over the past day—many of whom have already left the mall—could spread this outbreak across the entire Chun City?”
Xiao Qin lowered his head. Li Feng’s face was ashen; this was a matter of life and death for millions.
“Report this immediately,” Li Feng commanded. “We may need to request experts from the headquarters specializing in Traditional Chinese Medicine to resolve this.”
I stepped forward. “May I take a look at the patients?”
Li Feng glanced at me, then said, “Xiao Qin, this is Madam Yuan. Please escort her.”
Xiao Qin was surprised as he looked me over. Excitedly, he said, “You’re that... it’s an honor! I’m a fan.”
Li Feng shot him a glare, and he quickly collected himself. “This way, Madam Yuan.”
Following him, I entered a large medical tent. Inside, plastic dividers separated various sections, with a patient lying in each one. Their abdomens were swollen as if they were ten months pregnant. Painful groans filled the air, and occasionally, worms would drop from the beds.
I quickly walked over, picked up a worm to examine it closely, then moved to unbutton a patient’s clothing.
“Hey, you! Yes, you! What are you doing?” A doctor rushed over, trying to pull me away. “Who are you, messing around here?”
Xiao Lin immediately stepped in, blocking the doctor. “She’s a doctor, inspecting the patients.”
“A doctor? From which hospital? A physician? Or a chief physician?” The doctor was unrelenting. “Show your credentials first.”
Xiao Lin swiftly pulled out his military ID. “This is our doctor. Please show some respect.”
Ignoring the doctor, I unbuttoned the blue-and-white striped hospital gown. I discovered a long, black line on the patient’s abdomen, stretching from the chest all the way down to the Dantian area.
Taking a deep breath, I removed the helmet of my hazmat suit.
The doctor panicked, “What are you doing? Are you trying to kill yourself?”
Xiao Lin pressed down on the doctor’s shoulder, his expression dark. “Don’t move.”
I took off the hazmat suit, dug out a piece of Special Cinnabar from my bag, rubbed it on my hand, and pressed down on the patient’s abdomen.
The patient’s stomach suddenly twitched, forming the shape of a snake as thick as a baby’s arm.
The doctor was startled. “Wh-what is that?”
“Ghost-faced Worm Gu,” I said in a grave tone. “I can’t believe they dared to use such sinister Gu worms in a crowded area. It’s utterly insane!”
“Ghost-faced Worm Gu?” Hu Qingyu and the others exchanged bewildered glances. Despite their vast experience, they had never heard of it.
The doctor, agitated, stammered, “That’s impossible! This must be some kind of illusion! We’ve done endoscopies, X-rays, CT scans, and even surgery on a patient. There was nothing in their stomachs!”
“Modern medicine cannot detect Gu poison,” I explained. “Otherwise, where do you think those worms came from?”
The doctor clutched his head in disbelief; his decades of scientific understanding were collapsing before him.
Ignoring him, I took out my phone and quietly opened a private live stream, only accessible to those with the “Sky” designation.
The first to join was Huang Luzi, followed by True Lord Zhengyang. My heart leapt with excitement—True Lord had finally emerged from seclusion.
True Lord Zhengyang remarked, “Girl, you’ve leveled up? Mid-level Rank One? That’s a bit slow, but given how thin Spiritual Energy is in the mortal world now, it’s not bad.”
I pretended to check on another patient, then whispered, “True Lord Zhengyang, you’ve leveled up again, haven’t you?”
True Lord Zhengyang chuckled and replied, “With my current cultivation, advancing is no easy task. But, I’ve made some progress. What's going on over here?”
I ran my hand, smeared with cinnabar, over a patient’s abdomen. The stomach began writhing with snake-like movements. True Lord Zhengyang's face twisted with anger. “Ghost-faced Worm Gu! Who would be so vicious?”
“This person infected many people in the downtown area with Ghost-faced Worm Gu. There are already over two hundred victims,” I said through gritted teeth.
“What a scoundrel!” True Lord Zhengyang roared. I added, “I'm afraid it could spread exponentially, and soon, millions could be affected.”
Before I could finish speaking, a patient lying in the corner suddenly convulsed violently, froth bubbling from his mouth—froth filled with writhing worms that looked like maggots from a corpse. It was truly disgusting.
I rushed over, pressing several major acupuncture points on his body to infuse him with spiritual energy, temporarily suppressing the parasites inside him.
“How is he?” Hu Qingyu asked.
I replied grimly, “He’s likely the first patient who got infected. The Ghost-faced Worm Gu is now taking effect. This ghostly parasite will gnaw at his internal organs until his entire stomach is hollowed out, eventually crawling out through his mouth.”
Everyone’s faces turned pale. Hu Qingyu quickly asked, “Is there any way to counteract the Gu poison?”
“Step out for a moment and let me think,” I told them, sending everyone away. Then, I asked, “Elder Huang Luzi, I’ve seen cases of Ghost-faced Worm Gu in your jade slip records. You once used a Nine-ring Detox Pill to cure it, but the jade slip didn’t include the recipe. Can I trade you something in exchange for it?”
Huang Luzi asked coldly, “What can you offer me?”
I quickly responded, “What do you want? I’ll do my best to find it.”
True Lord Zhengyang protested, “Huang Luzi, don’t forget, you’re a doctor. Doctors are supposed to save lives—weren’t those your own words?”
Huang Luzi scoffed, “Have you ever seen a doctor treat patients without getting paid?”
I said, “Paying for treatment is only fair. Elder Huang Luzi, please tell me what you want, and I’ll get it for you.”
Huang Luzi was silent for a moment before saying, “I heard that spicy sticks are quite popular among mortals these days…”
I was stunned.
What? Elder Huang Luzi wants spicy sticks?
I stood there, dumbfounded for a while, then cautiously replied, “Elder, spicy sticks are junk food. They’re not healthy.”
“Who cares! Just get them for me, quickly!”
“Yes, yes, I’ll get them right away.” I agreed hurriedly, fearing he’d change his mind. I turned and walked out of the room, telling Hu Qingyu, “Minister Hu, could you please buy a box of spicy sticks?”
Hu Qingyu was equally confused. “What? You still have the appetite for spicy snacks at a time like this?”
I said seriously, “I’ve loved spicy sticks since I was a child. Eating them helps me think more clearly.”
Hu Qingyu’s lips twitched, and she turned to Xiao Lin. “Go find some, quickly!”
“Yes.” Xiao Lin immediately ran off and soon returned with a box of the most expensive spicy sticks. Just then, Li Feng happened to see him and frowned, “What are you doing? Don’t tell me spicy sticks can cure illnesses.”
“These are for me,” I said.
Li Feng’s expression darkened, and the others looked furious. A middle-aged man in military uniform shouted, “Nonsense! People are on the brink of death, and you’re here thinking about snacks?”
I turned to the officer. “And who is this?”
Hu Qingyu introduced him, “This is Colonel Zeng. The military has taken over control of Lianhua Mall.”
Colonel Zeng cast a cold, disdainful glance at me. “All non-essential personnel should clear out. If you’re not a doctor, don’t cause trouble here.”
Hu Qingyu quickly said, “Colonel Zeng, Madam Yuan has already identified the cause of the illness.”
“Oh?” Colonel Zeng asked dismissively. “What’s the cause?”
“Ghost-faced Worm Gu,” I answered. “An ancient and sinister Gu poison.”
