Horror Camgirl - Ch. 98: Spicy Snacks for a Cure

Colonel Zeng let out a cold laugh. “You got the cause of the illness right, but unfortunately, someone else discovered it before you.”

I frowned and glanced at Xiao Qin, who was standing next to Colonel Zeng. He avoided my gaze.

The members of the Mountain City Division were visibly angry. Xiao Lin shouted, “It was clearly Madam Yuan who identified the cause first! Xiao Qin, you were just eavesdropping nearby, and now you have the nerve to claim credit in front of Colonel Zeng?”

Colonel Zeng’s expression darkened. “Doctor Qin hails from Medicine King Valley and is a disciple of the renowned Traditional Chinese Medicine master Qin Zhizhen. And who exactly are you? Do you have a medical license? Who trained you? Which medical university did you graduate from?”

At this point, Li Feng smirked and said, “I heard Madam Yuan only graduated from high school?”

“What? Just a mere high school graduate, and you dare to spout nonsense here?” Colonel Zeng’s face turned even uglier. “Your Mountain City Division is really unreliable. What are you standing around for? Take them away!”

I shot a cold look at the smug Li Feng and the evasive Xiao Qin, then stopped Hu Qingyu, who was about to lose her temper. “It's fine. Let’s go.”

After we walked away, Xiao Lin fumed, “Jun Yao, you can’t just swallow this humiliation! Those people from Chun City are pushing it too far!”

“Why get worked up over them now?” I said calmly. “It's not like they know how to break the curse.”

“Exactly!” Xiao Lin agreed. “Whoever can lift the curse will be the real hero. What's the point of him stealing credit for discovering the cause?”

Captain Jin, who had remained silent, finally spoke up, “Madam Yuan, how confident are you?”

“One hundred percent,” I said, fully trusting Huang Luzi.

Captain Jin let out a sigh of relief. “With that assurance, I’m relieved.”

“However, I’ll need some time,” I added. “Let me have a quiet moment to enjoy some spicy snacks while I figure out the medicine prescription.”

We headed into the mall. Nearly ten thousand people were quarantined inside Lianhua Mall. The ground floor was crowded, with people sitting in scattered groups, their faces full of fear.

I made my way straight to the seventh floor, which was almost deserted and very quiet.

I placed the box of spicy snacks in a hidden corner and then found a café to sit in. Not long after, Huang Luzi messaged in the group chat: “The items have been delivered. I’ve also sent you the prescription. Study it well. If you still can’t cure the patients, don’t bother coming to see me.”

True Lord Zhengyang chuckled, “Huang Luzi may have a sharp tongue, but he’s actually a kind person.”

“Thank you, both of you,” I said, bowing respectfully to the camera. “On behalf of the millions of people in Chun City, I sincerely thank you for your great kindness.”

With that, I began preparing the medicine. Several large pharmacies were inside Lianhua Mall, now completely deserted. I went in and raided the shelves, quickly gathering the herbs needed for the Nine-ring Detox Pill, as none of the ingredients were particularly rare.

In the storage room of a large herbal medicine shop, I even found an alchemy furnace—an unexpected bonus.

I brought the furnace to an unleased storefront and began setting it up. Following the instructions from the Jade Slip, I carved talismans out of top-quality White Jade and placed them beneath the furnace. Chanting the incantations, the jade talismans burst into a blue flame.

I added the herbs, extracted their essence, merged the juices, and finally condensed them into Elixir Pills—all in one smooth process.

Boom!

The lid of the furnace opened, and I retrieved the Elixir Pills. Out of ten sets of herbs, I successfully produced seven pills, which was a decent success rate.

Now, it was time to test the effectiveness of the Elixir Pills.

I went downstairs, where several people were having seizures. Seven or eight patients lay on beds, convulsing violently, white foam bubbling from their mouths as insects scrambled to crawl out. Medical staff in hazmat suits held them down desperately.

Suddenly, a few insects bit through a hazmat suit and burrowed inside.

“Ah!” A medical worker screamed in horror, frantically tearing off the suit. To his shock, the insects had already tunneled under his skin, wriggling beneath the surface.

“Help me! Help me!” he screamed in terror, reaching out to Xiao Qin, his eyes filled with desperation and pleading.

But Xiao Qin was powerless against these parasitic worms. His face turned deathly pale as he had no choice but to have the worker restrained while he tried to cut open the skin with a scalpel. Yet, beneath the surface, there was nothing there.

Meanwhile, several more screams echoed behind us as more medical staff were infested. The remaining personnel fled in panic, no longer daring to come near.

Xiao Qin watched them writhing in agony, clutching their heads in pain. He knew he had made a grave mistake.

As the registered disciple of Master Qin Zhizhen, he had hoped that by taking credit in this crisis, his mentor would hold him in higher regard and perhaps even formally accept him as an inner disciple.

That’s why he tried to steal someone else’s credit. He had thought that once the cause was identified, so many doctors—some even foreign-educated PhDs—would certainly figure out a cure. But to his dismay, these renowned doctors, both domestic and international, were utterly at a loss.

"That's it! Master!" he slapped his forehead and said, "Master can definitely save these people. I need to go find him."

He hurriedly ran out of the tent, only to be stopped by two soldiers pointing their guns at him.

"Get out of the way!" he shouted. "I need to find my master—he’s the only one who can cure this illness."

"We have our orders," the soldiers replied firmly. "Anyone who has entered this tent is not allowed to leave, not even a step."

Xiao Qin was horrified. He glanced back at the patients inside; they were barely breathing, and the ground was crawling with worms—several of them had already made their way to his feet.

Panic-stricken, he frantically stomped on a few of the worms, then angrily said, "I'm warning you, I'm the apprentice of National Physician Qin Zhizhen. Only my master can save them now. If you stop me from finding him, you’ll be responsible for letting this outbreak worsen!"

Before he could finish speaking, an officer approached. "Dr. Qin, you don’t need to leave. Just call the National Physician from inside," he said.

The officer handed him a special satellite phone, but more worms were crawling toward him. Growing desperate, Xiao Qin shouted, "If you don’t let me out, I won’t make the call!"

"Are you really refusing to call?" Colonel Zeng walked over, his expression grim. Xiao Qin noticed Li Feng behind him and quickly pleaded, "Minister Li, please help me! Save me!"

Li Feng frowned. Xiao Qin usually seemed brave enough, but in a crisis, he turned out to be so cowardly. What a disgrace to the Chun City Division.

Colonel Zeng coldly remarked, "If you're not going to make the call, I’ve already reported the outbreak. The higher-ups will send a National Physician to handle it."

With that, he turned to leave. Xiao Qin turned pale with fear and tried to rush out, but the two soldiers immediately fired shots at the ground in front of him. The bullets sprayed concrete fragments everywhere, forcing him to stumble back and fall straight into a pile of worms.

The worms quickly swarmed over him, tearing through his biohazard suit and burrowing inside relentlessly.

"No!" He rolled on the ground, screaming, "Help! Someone, help me!"

Colonel Zeng shook his head, sighing, "He was a good doctor—what a pity."

At that moment, I stepped forward, blocking their path. "I’ve developed some new medicine that can treat the parasitic poison inside their bodies."

Colonel Zeng didn’t even glance at me and said dismissively, "A kid like you shouldn't be getting in the way here. A Traditional Chinese Medicine expert will handle this."

"Wait!" I pointed at the patients inside the tent. "Look at their condition! Can they really wait for an expert to arrive? Besides, even if a National Physician comes, they may not be able to counteract the poison."

Colonel Zeng sneered, "If even the National Physician can’t solve it, what can you do? You’re just a high school graduate!"

Frustrated, I retorted, "The Grand Founder was only a technical school graduate. What, do you look down on high schoolers?"

Colonel Zeng was momentarily speechless, then snapped angrily, "Stop causing trouble here, or I’ll have you detained for obstructing military duties."

I had no interest in arguing with him. I turned and rushed into the tent.

The two soldiers tried to stop me, but in a blink, I was already inside.

Colonel Zeng shouted angrily, "Are you out of your mind? Everyone else is trying to avoid this, and you’re rushing in to die!"

I glanced at him calmly. "I told you—I have medicine."

As I walked further in, the ground was teeming with parasitic worms. But strangely, with every step I took, the worms seemed terrified, retreating to the sides as if something about me repelled them.
